No matter what Blizzard says somebody will be unhappy. If they couldn’t find a reason to be unhappy, then they’d be unhappy that they don’t have a better reason to be unhappy.
When we get to that point, we can have that discussion again. Enjoy the moment now.

/facepalm
People injecting AV posts into other topics was a big reason I loved seeing AV players get trolled.
So…
I think with reverence to that… obviously they’ll get to that if they decided to to that. However…
With Classic they only had a 1.12 reference patch. For Burning Crusade I believe they have the 2.0.1 data. So they have all of that data, so if they do make BC servers, it should be a 2.0.1 to 2.4.3 experience.
Just with Classic they are out of luck since they only had the 1.12 data to work with.
Wonderful news. Classic just keeps getting better and better.
I liked this sentence… don’t know how, but it sounded good. Anyways, thanks for the update! Looking forward to the release date announcement!
A rational and well explained response. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain not only the details of what’s coming, but the thought process that went into it.
Obviously there are difficulty-related implications to using the most polished (and best) versions, but it’s fair to recognize that there would be downsides to a fully progressive itemization as well.
All in all, a reasonable choice. Looking forward to Classic!
Oh good they also confirmed cross realm BGs with this.
Imagine being that guy from 50 first dates… every 5 seconds you realized WoW was launching again
I feel like kaivax deliberately chose an example that makes his argument look better than it is because most people aren’t talking about items like Helm of Wrath when they’re talking about progressive itemization, they’re talking about items like tier0 set pieces that got massive stat bumps to act as catch up gear once progression has advanced to the point where people had largely stopped doing the beginning raid zones.
Kaivax, your example doesn’t just feel cherry picked, it feels disingenuous. It feels like an excuse manufactured after the fact to excuse something being done solely because it is the cheaper and easier option than doing it right.
We know that Classic is getting a skeleton development crew. we know that there will be practically non-existent support once its launched. We know that every decision about authenticity ultimately comes down to whether it’s in budget. We know all that. We don’t like it, but we’re still planning to play.
Please show us enough respect to not keep trying to invent non-fiscal excuses for decisions made for fiscal reasons.
In short: This feels like loot trading. This feels like Right Click Report. This feels like 1.12av. This feels like sharding. This feels like another in a long line of decisions that were bad for us, bad for authenticity, but good for a development timetable, and good for the ongoing budget after launch.
Neither were in Vanilla.
It totally is, and that’s 100% consistent with the game plan they outlined in the first Dev Watercooler. Expectation has been met.
it’s already in the post you read one sentence and went to all sorts of conclusions. Re-read if you can’t otherwise stop flaming for no reason.
No, you listed other forms of compensation. As if it were a foregone conclusion. Not what compensation is.
Compensation is a payment to offset loss. You have not lost anything, because you were not owed anything. Blizzard is granting us a benefit thanks to the passion and desire of the Classic lobby. The form of that benefit is theirs to decide, and they have decided.
Be grateful you’re getting such a well formed version of Classic.
Thank you for clarification. Sounds reasonable.
This news even more kills the classic WOW experience, no less than AV 1.12, of getting top stats that have already been added at the very end to make it easier to close content before BC release.
Easy AV/MC/BWL.

Thanks for the well thought out post!
