Item stats are pointless, just show a big number with the item level on the tooltip (when compared to vanilla/classic).

Think about how back in the day, we would make tradeoffs (spirit vs +spell power vs + spell power to a school, vs haste or hit or crit as 1%'s etc.).

Now, other than a tiny bit of flavor with orienting gear towards haste vs crit vs mastery, there is actually 0 reason to have stats on gear, as the overwhelming gearing choice is always “higher item level = better”.

So, why not redo the tooltips to remove all the useless stat info, and just show an item number?

Make all my damage look like hella big crits and I’m happy.

So what if I contribute less DPS than the healer.

Big crits, baby.

Secondary stats are pretty big deal.

So.

No.

A lot of gearing and progression takes place still after you get a higher ilvl

Bro, that is the reason those stats exist. Because every class uses them a tiny bit differently.

The question asked when looking at old items was “does this item waste its budget on worthless garbage stats that do literally nothing for me?”

In reality players mostly cared about 3-5 stats on their gear.

And wouldn’t you know it, now they care about 5 stats: the primary stat and each secondary rating.

Haste actually changed gameplay but I wouldn’t miss crit or vers at all. Mastery is a toss up depending on the spec.

I think they should just standardize secondary stats: crit for all DPS, mastery for all healers, haste for all tanks, and leave versatility for PvP only.

I’m not afraid to claim that some items have more of an important secondary stat versus intellect. For example, an item with a level of 640 is better than a 648. Or something along those lines.

The trade off was about 50 to 70 points of intellect for over 1000 points of haste or crit. That’s too huge to give up.

Also, your OP hints of Classic WoW. I don’t want any Classic vibes.

Op the game you should check out is called Candy Crush. It’s super popular and it’s probably more on your level. Gl!

If it doesn’t look cool, it’s got no stats to me in the first place.

depends on the class of course and you should sim to make sure but often times it will still be an upgrade.

For a fire mage, haste is a huge stat.

yes it is but you also have to take into account you would be gaining 1000 in another stat combined with the upgrade to your int it is often times an upgrade. thats why sim is so important.

What about when the gear is the same ilvl?

Which is probably most of the gear you get in modern wow endgame

Crit is fun when you have scrolling combat text on. But yeah, Vers and most Mastery (the only one I can think of off-hand that’s really cool is Ele) are total snorefests.

What other stat?

Haste doesn’t do anything, though, except slightly increase autoattack speed.

Just remove stats entirely. I guess give out something like 1% hp to make people feel like they got something. After all its all about content, balance, and the challenge. Your either good enough or youre not.
