Today I joined a Karazhan team with my hunter. I brought a level 63 pet along. Throughout the entire run, it only gained 1.5 bars of exp.
Pets have always been a pain to level, and being in a raid group in general super nerf xp.
I am aware of the exp reduction in raids, but 1.5 bars exp seems too little. I could be wrong but I remember vanilla hunters brought their pets into ZG or some other raids to level them.
Yes, you are.
Donno if the mechanic is correct or not but in this case what really matters is should this be addressed. I would say no as why should a hunter be bringing a pet to raid to level. That’s the same as comming to raid not enchanted or gemmed and in many cases for both pugs and guilds would get you kicked or loot banned. Taking a non leveled pet shouldent be seen as anything different really. As such don’t really see this as needing to be addressed or changed just to encourage someone not pulling there weight in raid.
Don’t bring low level pets to raids. How do you reach 70 and think that works well?
I doubt it’s the exp nerf. The mobs aren’t grey to anyone in Kara. Your pets probably has reduced raid exp. Try bringing a level 70 pet to Kara.
Well then it will get ZERO xp! /s
In vanilla you had to kill NPCs that were within like 8 levels of the pet to be optimal so be happy it’s better now. Also, don’t bring your low level pet to a raid or dungeon without the groups consent. Also the raid xp is normal.
Raid instances reduce the XP you get drastically; this has always been a thing. We brought low levels back in Classic vanilla to get them gear out of Molten Core, and they gained like next to zero XP when in the Raid. This is not new or unique to Classic, its always been this way as far as i know.
raids arent the best source of xp. it’s always been terribad.
In dungeon boosting, having more low levels help lower the average level of the group, leading to better exp for everyone the more appropriate level players there are. This is also why having a level 20 in SM boosts is terrible for the level 20, but great for everyone else.
In raid boosting (ZG), that group averaging no longer applies and instead the exp is split between all players in the raid. That’s why ZG boosters would only bring 1-2 players at a time.
And then hunter pets also just gain less exp in general per kill.
People buy the slabs boosts specifically for pet XP.
5 man dungeon… it’s perfect for the pets.
In SoM I’ve gained 3 pet levels in 4 20man raids (2zg 2aq20)
I need to remember that if I ever get a hunter to that point. it could be worth it for the right price lol.
