Incorrect. In PL loot was generated after you rolled to see if you were a winner. It doesn’t just drop items and divvy them up like normal.
Base level odds of winning were 1/25. However mob drops 5 items, and 5 different people are winners so really its 5/25 or 1/5 for you non mathmeticians.
Now, you might not even see an item that you can roll on.
= less loot.
As it stands now you need to have the item drop which is already low chance, then you have to beat 25 people so your odds are a way worse then 1/25.
PL it is always 5/25. Never changes…which is effectively 1/5 since no one could win 2x.
Anyone who thinks they are winning 1/5 rolls on trash GL you are just flat out lying, gatekeeping, and trolling.
If your group is missing Hunter, DH, Rogue, or an entire armor class (there may be more edge cases I’m forgetting) then unusable loot can drop
PL had different issues such as there being an excessive number of ring, necks, and capes dropping. Also there was a possibility of an item dropping for a player that didn’t want it but couldn’t trade it due to trade restrictions.
The chances of getting loot in GL are definitely slightly less than 0.2, but despite despite the attitudes of GD there are players hitting greed, it’s just not as publicized as hitting need. Claims that the odds of GL plummet due high level players not hitting greed makes as much sense as claiming PL odds plummet because high level players won’t trade.
edit: Upon further reflection, I’ve realized I missed an important factor. The odds of getting equippable loot in GL do not drop below 0.2 because useless items drop. The odds drop below 0.2 because Blizzard made a static loot table for each boss, which means there is one or more ideal raid comps in terms of loot distribution, which means every other comp is unoptimized. For any given raid, some players (before loot drops) have expected odds above 0.2 while others have expected odds below 0.2. The sum of the odds for equipable loot will fall below 500% if an unequipable item might drop.
Essentially raid comp becomes a third layer of rng for loot rolling. It’s usually efficient and I have yet to see a well put together argument for it being systematically biased, but it is confounding.
Someone is winning though, which is where your assertion falls apart. The same number of items are awarded across the same number of players in GL as we had in PL in Shadowlands. Calculating the odds each player has on any boss is a lot more complicated with GL than it was under PL, for sure. On every boss there are likely some players who do have worse odds than they would under PL.
But because the same number of items are being made available for the same number of players, the probability across the entire raid HAS to be the same. The average chance each player has at getting an item will still be 1/5, because somebody is getting each item that does drop. This part is a zero sum calculation - every player whose odds are below 1/5 necessarily is met with one or more other players having odds above 1/5.
In LFR this week every body was rolling dice , they blame Blizz .I agree with them .I brought 9 alts in lfr and havent got a loot in 3 weeks only loot was from the vault. The system is rotten to the core but pleases Blizz .The game is not players friendly at all .If we could see behind the curtain we would be very disappointed
Blizzard needs to examine automatically granted “overgeared” characters a transmog token for each boss they kill which doesn’t drop loot of a higher iLevel than what they’re currently wearing.
That way they’re not transmog competing with players that genuinely need the upgrade.
None of what you said really went anywhere, and my points still stand, and Blizzard seems to agree.
Help kill the boss, you can roll on the loot. Doesn’t matter what you want it for.
Anyone who thinks this is “unfair” is just deluded thinking that their contribution is more valuable than someone else’s who is also playing the game.
I don’t care what gear you are wearing, I’m there, I get to roll on the loot too. You’re not my friend. You’re not my guildmate. You don’t care about what gear I have either, so let’s stop pretending its some kind of “moral issue”.
That’s fine that you don’t care about my gear, being my friend and me not being a guildmate. I do appreciate the hard work that you put in and your ability to do the content I cannot. I will continue to try and help you and others out in the content even if it’s at my max abilities or beneath yours.
The “moral issue” is Blizzard released a system that has faults because they released trans mog as an option to roll but no one selects that option because they are guaranteed a loss of the roll to someone that needs it as a gear upgrade. Something you’re depriving that player because to them LFR might be their end game and only way to gear up.
The following is the textbook ruleset set by players and gaming companies that have a form of loot distribution. It however isn’t always followed by gamers as some have put value on their time compared to others.
In games with loot, “Need Before Greed” is a rule of looting etiquette that prioritizes players who need an item over those who want it for greed. In other words, if a player needs an item for their character, they should get first pick at it before those who want it for greed. [This rule is enforced by the loot setting].
Transmogrification (trans mog) is a feature in some games that allows players to change the appearance of their equipment without affecting its stats. In games with trans mog, players can choose to roll for an item not only for its stats but also for its appearance. However, the “Need Before Greed” rule still applies, meaning that players who need an item for their character should get first pick at it before those who want it for trans mog.
Look we know the current system is flawed. You have every right to roll on something as the other player does. It’s unfortunate that Blizzard failed to make trans mog rolls grant an appearance only version of the item and if you select the appropriate choice, you don’t get something for “your time”.
Blizzard has options to fix the system but chooses not to. Something that has ended with multiple forum posts and players coming from both sides attacking the system and each other.
They can, add recipes for Alchemist to make potions to tint your gear, allow people to roll trans mog and the winner actually gets an appearance only copy (they still need to run LFR, normal, heroic and mythic), or winning a higher version of the gear grants all the lower color schemes.
Like me, hate me it doesn’t matter. I wish you the best of luck and may something you need in game become yours.
