Personally I think all it does is limit options for inexperienced players who don’t know how things work. Anyone whos been around these forums for a little while probably has a classic alt that would meet whatever arbitrary level requirements that would be instated.
And again, the drive to troll by both communities will not be stopped by simply having to play the game a little bit. Everyone talks about their worry over gatekeeping in both games and here is just a way to gatekeep the forums which will not in any way get rid of the people the advocates of this idea don’t like.
i play both games. i have 13 120s. i am still leveling my classic toons obv. but i plan to play both. i speak out only against people who talk crap about people who play retail. the rest of the posts here on any of my toons are talking about how fun classic is.
is this your main in classic because i’ve rerolled 2 warlocks, a pally, this shaman, a priest and a hunter all to 13 or higher since classic came out. so i wouldn’t be throwing other people under the bus for slow leveling.
edit: intended to main shaman but switched to priest. but farming alts etc.
There is slow leveling and then there is no leveling. I have been leveling a lock, a priest and a rogue with this account in addition to this warrior. Been soaking up rest XP
I am playing the game. I have always posted on Meriweather, the resto shammy. I can post on my classic avatar, and I have, but I’ve always been THIS toon on these forums.
It feels disingenuous to post as the other picture because people who have interacted with me on this avatar might not know they’re talking to the same person…and that seems icky.
It’s about being transparent. I’m me. Still the same player. I’m in Classic and loving it. I post on the avatar I like posting on.
Clearly everyone should know a random level 12 character with 0 posts is actually someone with 3k+ posts or whatever.
Honestly though the fact that the forums are linked to a “per character” sort of deal and not across the whole bnet account is something I never understood.
Make it double!
To protect the world from immersion!
To unite all peoples within our version!
Team Retail blasts off at the speed of flight!
/afk now, or prepare to fight!
Personally, I prefer to post on this gal because she is my forum identity. I swap around to alts for specific comments or if I’m showing something they have. That means this gal has Trust Level 3 and can post links, and all the other characters I don’t spend enough time to earn.
I think they did close this forum to accounts without game time the day of (or day before) release. That’s sufficient, really. Requiring a level 10 or level 20 character just means the trolls you’re hoping to stop are only the ones most dedicated to trolling.
Other than splitting people’s forum history across multiple accounts, which is a pain in the butt, this would serve no purpose other than the aesthetic. I have 2 characters at +15 for classic, but I won’t be using them to post unless it is somehow relevant to the post I am making. I like to hop between the different forum categories without having to switch toons and check a ton of different thread updates.
