Okay, so lookit: I think pokemon is dumb. Always did. Back when it came out (I was a teenager, I think), there were boys my brother’s age who played with them and did the card collecting thing…and I thought it was horrible. My daughter watched the cartoon when she was little, and I thought it was glorifying animal abuse. I didn’t “get it.”
In WoW, I equated Battle Pets to Pokemon and said, “nope.” I have literally never done it before. I had hundreds of pets and caged and sold most of them because they meant nothing.
Well.
It’s the end of BfA. I want my Uldum bug larva mount. So. I watched a video and learned to do the pet battles. I don’t know if it’s because I’m in a content drought or what, but this is fun. And…right about now, I’m face palming at all those polished pet charms I deleted and the table missions I’ve ignored for two years.
What about you guys? Any of you do the pet battle thing? I did my first ones ever today, and I gotta say…it’s a lot more fun than I thought.
I enjoy collecting and leveling them. You deleted the pet charms? XD You could have bought some pets and sold them. A lot of them go for over 10k each.
Google Xufu pet guides and give the pet dungeons a try. They have a fun little story from beginning to end.
I’m waiting till SL releases before I get into Battle Pets. But I do like the idea and I think it will be a fun way to pass some time when I don’t feel like doing anything else.
I totally lived next to some parents equally as ridiculous as you when I was younger! My neighbor literally couldn’t come over anymore because his mom was 100% convinced I was word for word teaching Jeremy how to cast spells… we didn’t even know how to play we just liked to read the cards.
Um…that lady was weird. I never stopped her from watching Pokemon, and I didn’t have a complex wherein I suspected the neighborhood children of witchcraft. I simply…didn’t like Pokemon.
I’m sorry for Jeremy’s childhood trauma, but OMG…you’ve projected a bad juju beam on me that doesn’t fit.
Smart…they go out into the wilderness and trap creatures and force them to fight to the death. It…looked like dog fights. If you can’t see that, I don’t know what to tell you.
But it was a cartoon. I knew that from day one, and my kid LOVED that cartoon. I didn’t take it seriously then, and I don’t now. I just thought it was unappealing and dumb.
I really like the WoW version, though, and I’m having a shocking amount of fun.
Okay to be fair. If I knew nothing of pokemon and saw them fighting. I’d think it was like dog fighting.
Once you learn what Pokemon actually are it’s more like you’re a coach watching someone box because they want to.
I believe it’s always up to the pokemon if they wish to be caught or not. And if they end up caught they can still choose to not listen or be too interested in their trainer. ( Ignoring the gameplay mechanic, I’m just going by lore )
I just don’t understand the whole thing. I would say it’s a generation thing, however I have a family member older than I am who loves it and Pokemon.
I have pets in game, but they’re just there. The pet that follows me on every character, papi, I purchased via the AH and then used my pet tokens to lvl to 25.
Papi is pretty and I love his splash of color following my DKs around.
I know. I know. I see it now…oh, the error of my ways! Now, I’m going onto all of my many alts and mailing the small handful they each have in their banks to my main. Sigh.
