Since my last post this priest’s mounting issue resolved itself. I was doing world quests in nazmir and after killing a random monster (no special event or quest, just one I decided to kill) I could suddenly mount again once out of combat.
However yesterday my level 119 warrior (Balbazzak) is again unable to mount. He was doing the story quest in nazmir at the necropolis finishing the quest chain for bwomsandi. Once I finished the final quest there against the blood troll boss (the one that roots and stuns you at the end), handed in the quest and got out of combat I can no longer mount again on that warrior. I get the same message ‘you can’t do that yet’.
Right now I have tried your reset UI suggestion and it has no effect on the mounting issue for my warrior, regardless of what mountable zone he is in.
I do not see why this would be a UI issue because I run relatively few addons. I do not have any addons that modify the bars or their layout (eg. bartender, elvui) and use almost no macros (including no macros that involve my mount buttons). These are the addons I use on my warrior:
energywatch - to track rage
tellmewhen - to track cooldown and buff/debuff timers
raiderio - to track mythic+ progress for players
world quest tracker - for world quests obviously
healbot - for party/group member frames
recount - to track DPS, healing, etc.
After seeing that resetting to default UI did not solve my issue I reactivated my addons and manually updated (no addon manager) the above addons to their newest versions and the mounting issue persists on my warrior.
My chat log is not showing any notifications about addon errors or any other in-game messages that my limited addons may be an issue. In 12 years of playing WoW I have never had this mounting issue before patch 8.1 launched two weeks ago. Now I have had it FOUR times already. All the patch and hotfix updates through the launcher seemed to go fine so I don’t see what files could possibly be corrupted.
How many addons you use has little to do with whether or not one may have become corrupt. The UI Reset also resets the default UI to rule out a misbehaving UI too.
The UI Reset is a first step at troubleshooting an issue like this. That’s why it’s often recommended.
You issue could still be a corrupt UI, game files, a bug or even possibly a connection issue.
At this point, you’d be best to either post in the Tech Support forums or contact Tech Support directly for further assistance.
Also, to touch on this, after you do the full UI reset and if the problem persists, you want a Bug Report. If there is a bug here, there’s nothing they can do for you individually. They will address the bug to solve it for everyone.
…and magically my warrior’s mounting problem has fixed itself (for the second time)
This time it happened doing the story quest to unlock drustvar foothold. I thought all the forced vehicle use would somehow fix it. After doing the quest chain in drustvar leading to unlocking the krazlefraz outpost I took the boat back to dazar’alor, and magically I can mount again fine.
Now to see when this problem happens AGAIN on my warrior or priest or another character in some random situation, fun times.
Have you tried a combination of a UI Reset and a Scan and Repair? It could be more than just corrupt UI files, but the UI reset also ensure that’s not contributing.
My warrior jumped off the dazar’alor pyramid to die and upon rezzing the problem is fixed (until it happens again). However this will get expensive real quick with repair costs of 25-50g per death.
I already mentioned the UI reset did not help me. Next time this happens I will try the scan and repair idea mentioned.
For what it’s worth I have talked with 2 people on my battle.net friends list and they both said they have had such a mounting bug happen since the patch. In both cases it happened multiple times from seemingly random events and in both cases it magically fixed itself from some other random event (I did not ask them if the magic fix involved dying). I have also seen posts on the bug report forum involving other mounting bugs such as not being able to see or interact with your mount after activating it (eg. the grand expedition yak) so it suggests there is something more systematically wrong (bugged) in the 8.1 patch regarding mounting.
Killing myself was the only thing that solved the problem for me. Kind of crappy of blizz to roll out this bug. Takes away from the experience… pushing us ever closer to unsubscribe.
I’m also occasionally having a mount-related error but it’s of a different nature.
In my case it successfully mounts, but the mount itself isn’t graphically represented. Instead my character uses their sprinting animation to move at the mounted speed.
This doesn’t sound like it’s a problem, but it’s causing me to get “you are mounted” error messages when interacting with objects that normally auto-dismount you.
I also have had that ‘you are mounted’ message when I do successfully mount sometimes and the mount does not appear, or in the case of a druid I press travel form which gives me ground mount speed but it looks like my druid character is sprinting around.
But this thread of mine is specifically about sometimes not being unable to mount at all in the first place when out of combat in mountable areas and getting the ‘you can’t do that yet’ error message.
Since my last post this problem keeps happening on and off with my priest character, both inside and outside of instances, and again the only reliable way to clear the issue is to die.
My issue started with the invisible mount, and combat not initiating due to being mounted. I repaired, ui reset, flush dns and reset, and updated drivers. Now I started having the issue you just described. I cannot mount anywhere, and it is only one character I’m having a problem on.
