Issues launching WoW from bnet launcher

Since the latest patch my game (wow) won’t launch from the launcher. I’ve tried reinstalling Battle.net launcher and reinstalling the game itself. Multiple scan and repairs haven’t found an issue, and checking for updates says the game is up to date. Sometimes after a PC reset the launcher will start to install a patch but immediately stops after the initializing phase. I’ve tried multiple solutions I’ve found online that helped others, as well as waiting a couple of hours after hitting play for the game to eventually open. When I try to use a wow desktop short cut, it says the game isn’t up to date. I can only assume it’s some sort of issue with the patch not installing correctly since I haven’t had this issue before. Although recently it has had issues launching, before the most recent patch a scan and repair would fix the issue in the past. Since I’m out of ideas any help to fix it would be appreciated.

After a few tickets, the GM’s suggested i make a post here. I tried everything again just in case it decided to fix it, even tried a fresh boot, still didnt work.

What happens when you press play, exactly? Error message? Nothing? Does the game show in active process but doesn’t display?

Nothing, and no it doesnt show in active processes. I hit it, it shows launching for a bit then goes back to play

sometimes itll say it needs to update, once i hit update itll initialize a bit then reclaiming disk space, then the pop up saying wow is playable comes up and defaults back to play. It has to be some sort of issue with the most recent patch but i wouldve thought reinstalling both bnet and wow wouldve fixed it.

Uhm if it was an issue with the patch itself it would likely cause a lot more reports from people being unable to launch.

And just reading again, are you able to launch the game without the launcher?

oh hey I’ve been having this exact same issue! I contacted support and they gave me advice that didn’t do anything, including telling me to re-download via “this link” without any link provided

Update: Correction! Nope, nevermind, the issue I had the very same problem with has been fixed by doing absolutely nothing for a week. I had this issue since last tuesday, I tried running the executable during the week and I got an error saying the game couldn’t be run by my PC.

I also had this issue with Cata Classic, installed WoW classic to see if the same problem would happen with new installs (I had the same problem) and had been just unticking read-only to files and still got nothing solved except for Cata and WoW classic somehow fixing themselves. I just tried booting up WoW a few minutes ago and now my issue’s resolved too.

In short, idk how to fix this, time seemingly did and ngl I’ll be surprised if the issue doesn’t come back the next time I run WoW or when the new patch arrives.

Nah i cant, it says the game isnt the current version (when it is). Tried creating a shortcut from the launcher, and from the file location of the game too. neither work.

Bumping this convo cause the issue returned for me again after another update. Only difference is now the game says when I try running it from the folder “Invalid access to memory location.”

Having this issue too

Do you guys run antivirus? Like avg or avast ? Disable those and check

I know with diablo 4 the rootkit tool was causing that to not load

I am having the same issue here. Anyone got a fix for this? Pretty frustrating.

This has been going on for weeks and I haven’t been able to log in…

yeah, ive been trying to get it fixed since the patch. nothing works.

Stuck on loading screen for more than a week. I have completely uninstalled the game twice. The patch loaded but no matter what I do, I can’t make it past about 5% on the loading screen. I can’t seem to reach customer svc as they have a very circular route that arrives nowhere. If I could get in game, I would open a ticket.

Having a similar isse as well. Initially, WoW would launch in a window but nothing would happen and the game would ‘hang’, and require a forced closed (i.e. ‘program not responding’).

I re-installed WoW and now the window doesn’t even open! I hit play on Bnet, it says ‘Launching’, then nothing happens and it goes back to ‘Play’.

Different for me is that the ‘WoW’ process is actually running when I hit play, I just can’t see it; no window, no noise…nothing.

The same issue is happening with D4, but weirdly Hearthstone is fine?

Other games run fine on my machine (from Steam), so I’m confident its not a hardware issue.

bump, same thing here has been happening to me for like a week. i used to be able to fix it by uninstalling and reinstalling wow/battle.net but i’ve been doing so all morning and it still won’t work

Same thing is happening to me, I hope it gets fixed.

I don’t think it’s ever getting fixed. Afaik this issue has happened since like June-ish, Blizzard hasn’t left any blue posts notifying they know of this problem, and all tickets sent to them just come back with a response of ask the community instead. Too few people are having this issue, not too big a loss of money.
