Issue with Nameplate cvar not saving

Ever since I started back playing again in July, I have been unable to get the cvar for nameplate max load distance to save. I’ve tried pretty much everything you can name. Multiple different nameplate addons (Plater, Elvui, Kui), stock UI, resetting Cache and WTF folders, manually editing the cvar with advanced interface options and using a console command and nothing has been able to fix this issue.

It seems stuck at like 60 yards regardless of what I try. Thanks for any insight into this issue.

Hey Trummel,

60 would be the max value for nameplate distance, which is intended. So if you are trying to set it beyond 60 it should not work.

if you are trying to edit it to be something less than 60 and it’s not saving, that may be due to a permissions issue. Try setting both the Battle.net app and WoW.exe to run as admin, then change the setting and see if it will save upon exit.

As an alternative you could also open the Config.wtf file in the WTF folder, edit in SET nameplateMaxDistance "60" (or whatever number less than 60 you want), and then save the file and make the file Read-only.

Was trying to set it to 40 yards, but tried both of these and still doesn’t do anything.

The cvar itself in advanced interface options says it’s set at 40 yards but it’s not applying or something.

Setting it lower than 60 yards has been bugged for months now. People have made posts about it reporting it has not worked. I set it to 40, still at 60. Set it to 15, still at 60.

Thanks for the heads up Untitled.

I checked for bugs regarding nameplates and I did find one from a few months ago. It actually looks like the ability to change the value with the nameplateMaxDistance command was disabled at that time. So it will always be at the default value.

Sorry for the confusion Trummel and Untitled!
