It would be nice if they did a better job producing their own guides on how things work. But seeing WOWhead seems to always have it covered, they probably figure why waste the time. Plus I am sure they work with them to make sure the guides are accurate to begin with.
Maybe there mindset is “why pay $100 for a dev to put a sign in the Torghast lobby when wowhead will explain it at no charge to us?” It’s very annoying… are they really that greedy that they can’t bother to explain a non-intuitive new system in-game?
This one always gets me!
Theory: Ion in some past interview “We want itemization to be simple–if you get a higher ilvl piece of gear you should be able to equip it without worring about sims.”
Execution: How does an item-level 213 trinket (i.e., quantum device from DoS or the phial of putrefaction from PF) outperform a 226 trinket ever?!
I like how they want Torghast to be fun, but then gave bonus point if the player never picked Epic powerup or stack the same powerup.
It’s like they’re saying “Hey now you have to pick between having fun or 5 crystals”, they’re so out of touch its hilarious.
And the game never explains what a “good” use of the empowered bonus is, or what the bonus objectives are.
I gave new Torghast an honest chance. First pass, I literally tried to kill everything and every urn and loot everything on every floor. I genuinely tried. Got 3 stars.
Second time I did Torghast I did the exact same thing. Genuinely tried to do a 100% completion run. 3 stars.
New Torghast is amazingly somehow even worse than old Torghast. Now I get to feel like a complete failure every single week I even bother to try and get my chores done. Incredible that they could make me dislike this thing even more than I already did.
That’s because they want people who don’t do enough of the right research to lose out on progression.
Unrecoverable mistakes is an RPG element from the roots of wow that people left other games to get away from. But devs love that idea. People who make mistakes based on incomplete or missing information lose out.
If I could see my culminative score that’d be nice. There’s all these vague unexplained bonuses that I only learned about via WoWhead. There’s so much extra room they could use on the Torghast interface.
I couldn’t even see my highest score for the layer after I left. I’m not sure why that would be left off of the Layer choosing UI.
It just feels like there’s a disconnect. The run feels exactly the same, but I’m being punished for completing the run because I didn’t do so in a particular way. Why does it really matter how I do the run, if I can kill the last boss without doing the run how the arbitrary shards rating tells me to?
Also to add on: If you want more shard rating from your empowerment buff, you pretty much need to hold the buff until the very end of a massive pull and use it solely to secure the killing blows since that’s what accumulates the extra score.
I’m going to assume and hope this just gets better with the talents from the cube of many things. But the first impression’s okay, albeit a bit rough and unexplained.
My god, how many of these am I gonna see? You. Don’t. Need. To time anything.
Ya you’re right. I don’t have to time anything. But I didn’t cap my tower knowledge, and that just feels like I completely failed.
I don’t HAVE to cap my (insert arbitrary new timegated bs here) but it definitely feels like I’m a complete failure when I actually try my best to get that capped (insert pointless timegated bologna here) and I fail. I’m not going to run Torghast 4 times a week instead of 2 just to get the cap. I don’t even know if I’m going to run Torghast at all anymore honestly. The amount of time they spent to get this patch out is just so disappointing. I don’t know what to say anymore it’s just sad to see this game hit new lows again and again.
Blizz doesn’t bother explaining a lot of things
Look for Bonus objectives and complete them. That is how you get 5 stars easily.
It is called “content”
It’s a timer, that’s all I need to know. As long as it is there I will not touch Torghast+. If I wanted a race in WoW I already had Mythic+, which I never touch because it’s a race.
you don’t have to finish with 4 or 5 stars – or at all – to cap TK. even failed runs get you some TK. i bailed at floor 2 on one run and walked away with like 20 TK. you can just keep running until you cap.
if I can go through that slog of a grind twice trying my best to complete everything TWICE and still fail TWICE… that’s clearly the devs going out of their wait to make sure I either fail or they are deliberately designing a game that makes me toxic.
I went out of my way to try and be a 100% completion turbo nerd TWICE. And I still got 3 stars twice. That’s just sloppy. I don’t even want to try it again. If I have to quadruple my time in this already bad experience just to meet these new criteria to feel like I accomplished what I need to do (max a new stupid timegated currency) then I have no interest in this nonsense.
-.-
You reply with a link with another link in that link?
Seriously?
Just look at Legion. Nobody needed any of this bs. It was easy. It was accessible. It was enjoyable. It was rewarding. This is just really, really sad.
Click the link, since I can’t post screen shots, it’s my run, I didn’t use Empowered on purpose to prove how important bonus objectives are.
almost half your score is just random made up bs that has no context. I tried to be a completionist and I failed. Twice. Because there is no map. And it’s now a speedrun so trying to analyze the map just makes it worse. I thought I got 100% and guess what, I only got 87%. I was as meticulous as ever. Tried to kill everything. I wanted at least 4 stars. Nope. only 3. There was always something I missed. Always. The devs are either trolling anyone who isn’t a turbo nerd no-lifer or they are just completely obsessed with the 0.001%. I’m inclined to believe the latter because of recent revelations about the VIP forums and the behaviour of the devs the last 5 years.
…yeah hyperbole truly makes your argument better…I took more than 30 minutes, that is not being “turbo” at all.
|Daredevil|Defeat 2 Elites within 10 seconds of each other|10|
|Highlander|No duplicate Anima Powers|15|
|Hoarder|Defeat the floor 5 boss with at least 500 Phantasma remaining|10|
|Pauper|No epic Anima Powers|10|
|Pillager|90% of Ashen Phylacteries destroyed|5|
|Plunderer|Opened treasure chests|5|
|Rescuer|Assisted a denizen of Torghast|10|
|Robber|Robbed a Broker (Requires a Ravenous Anima Cell, sold by the very same Broker)|5|
|Savior|All Soul Remnants freed|10|
|Trapmaster|No trap damage taken|10|
And if ANY of this is too much of a problem (some of them like Highlander admitely are) then learn how to use the Empowered Bonus to make up for points.
