Is wow in game voice dead?

Last expansion I remember some group had comms with the blizz in game voice system. Has it been completed abandoned? It doesn’t seem used at all. I guess discord is so much superior for comms people use that?

Ive never tried the wow specific chat. I have used the bnet voice that though when playing d3 with a buddy. It worked a treat.

How does the wow one work exactly? If i join an lfr group are we free to jump on voice comms if we want? Or is it still meant for friends specifically?

I totally forgot about in game voice chat.

It has been dead since a week, or maybe a day, after it was added.

I think I used it once and then went back to Ventrilo.

it works fine, folks just prefer Discord.

No one wants to hear people being salty. There is enough of it in text chat.

It never was.

I use it sometimes with my friend. We generally use discord though. I think people just have an inherent fear of utilizing voice communication with people and refuse to use it for the most part when pugging.

Yes, if you listen around 11 P.M. in the evenings you can hear them calling.

I tried it when they first released it many years ago… All I heard was “buzz, squawk, squark, static…” Nothing intelligible.

I tried it again during the BFA prepatch… All I heard was “This is buzz, squawk, squawk, static…”

Have never tried it since. Not even sure how to enable it anymore.

Sorry about that, I was pretending to be a parrot.

unfortunately yes.

it was dead the moment they announced it. blizzard took way to long to add something when we already had better. i remember joining a pug for a raid the first week they added this and a group tried to force people to use it and everyone just left.

My group tried to use the in game chat but there were always issues with it so we switched to Discord and have never looked back. Discord just works.

People used the in-game voice chat??

Never used it, never will.

I didn’t realize anyone actually used it.

Back in Legion me and a couple of other people gave the in-game voice chat a go. I don’t think anyone actually liked it when other apps were a higher quality experience.

Can’t kill what was never alive to begin with…

Pretty much, yeah.

There’s nearly nothing it does that Discord can’t do better and there isn’t a Mythic Halondrus where you’re actively incentivized to get into a second voice comm with your bomb buddy.
