The obvious answer is no.
You pay for the most recent expansion,
It is also paid for each month of play.
So why is there a store that sells you content such as mounts and cosmetics?
It is not fair that we pay for the games and for playing month by month, and they want to sell us mounts to earn extra money, which should already be available in the game.
Blizzard has 2 options.
1.- If you charge for the game and also charge for the game from month to month, you CANNOT sell separate content, when it should already be in the game that is ALREADY paid.
2.- If you have a store where you sell frames and cosmetics, then you should not charge for the game or for the game time month after month.
NOTE: The bad thing is that there are people, so naive, that in addition to paying for the game and paying for the game time every month, they pay for a mount. (These people are the problem).
Because customers are willing to continue paying the current sub price and buy items from the store. Also, it’s still the industry standard as the 2 top MMOs both have subscription models and stores.
They also have option 3…which is to do nothing and continue with business as usual.
No, unless you make a lot of gold in 30 days, in which case yes.
I didn’t spend a single cent buying the Deluxe edition of SL. I paid for my sub with money but could just as easily swap to gold instead and be perfectly fine.
It’s kinda like how the Fortnite Battle Pass requires you to pay for V-Bucks the first time you buy it but if you complete all the objectives on that Battle Pass you have enough V-Bucks to buy the next Battle Pass without spending another cent, and said Battle Pass also awards enough V-Bucks to get you the next one for “free” too. And IIRC there have been ways to get that V-Bucks in-game without spending money, albeit at a much slower rate.
Fortnite basically adopts the model of “if you play the game enough and are invested enough into the game, you can basically get all the cosmetic rewards you’d want for free.” It’s kinda similar here, except somebody else is obviously paying for a WoW token. But who cares? I’m not paying $15 or $20 for it, so I certainly don’t.

The problem is blizzard has been doing this for a long time and people see it as business as usual. They’re in a unique position to be able to do this type of business and while I find it disgusting it’s just the way it is. I expect more companies will follow their lead.
I’m sure this has already been pointed out, but WoW isn’t the only one with a subscription model, you needing to purchase expansions and a in-game store of some sorts.
If anything WoW is about a decade late to that whole thing.
technically it isn’t free to play. someone has to buy game time just to initiate the account. After that it can be via farming gold and buying tokens to use it for sub.
as for the cash shop well thats probably put in to get people who want the items to buy them thus extra income. take for example ff14 yoshi P does NOT have any say to the cash shop if he did there probably wouldn’t be one. people do buy the mounts and what not in the cash shop some of it has been in the game i believe and the following year for the event they put it in for those who didn’t get it.
basically what you are saying is true because if people didn’t purchase the things in the cash shop likely wouldn’t even have one but you always will have a good amount that will purchase them. Why? because they want them and they wont add it into the game until maybe MANY… years down the line via a recolor. take the chinese lion mount given in CE MoP version which has i think 2 recolors or maybe just 1? come BfA. exact same mount just different color then they added the CE mounts into the shop ontop of that which kind of isn’t unusual now days even ff14 does it.
only way to stop it is to literally boy cott it and everyone has to or a HUGE portion has to. this likely won’t ever happen. as long as a good chunk of people keep buying the items even during sales they will continue to add more. im sure it doesn’t take them much effort to chuck out new pets or mounts. the mounts imo is extremely overpriced. $15-20 for 1 but $25 is bleh
