I dunno about that, I think there have been kids who like complex stuff, and most kids who don’t, in any generation.
Back in the late 1970’s I loved complex games and was playing multiple RPG’s (paper & pencil) and lots of hexmap-and-chit strategy games, while most of my friends were playing Pac Man.
I think it’s also true today. There are the nerds who like complex stuff, but most kids won’t.
Some people enjoy investing time in activities, all the way back to stamp collecting and building a ship-in-a-bottle. But most people don’t have the attention span.
