Just go hit with a 2 week ban for trading Retail gold for classic gold. At no point did I buy gold but here I am with a 2 week ban. Nothing I could find in the TOS or on the forum says this is against TOS only that it is not supported by blizzard. What is my chances I can get this over turned? All gold was bought via tokens or made playing the auction house. I even said in say chat that each trade was for exchange retail for classic gold. Had my account for like 15+ years so a 2 week ban seems crazy harsh for something that is not even against TOS. Can any GM look into this for me?
It’s unsupported. Which means you have to be very careful where the gold you got came from. In this case, with the penalty you got, you almost certainly received tainted/RMT gold and so got punished.
You can appeal if you feel this is incorrect.
The people who traded you their Classic gold, did they also get it from tokens or auction house? Only your end of the transaction is in your control.
It’s unsupported and you very likely received gold that has been linked to RMT.
A Few Red Flags:
- All messaging is done in a Discord, not in game.
- The person giving you the gold is a level 1 character
- They refuse to get on their main to trade the gold
Any of these signs means its almost always gold that is dirty and will get your account actioned.
I’m not sure where they got it. They said it was from friends that wanted tokens in retail wow.
The points Voidercane is making about red flags are very good.
Your friends may have been buying gold then.
Gold sellers and the like want to launder their dirty gold for clean gold. WoW token gold is always clean gold. Basically a Money Laundering operation.
We’ve seen a number of posts lately about Classic hits for RMT gold. Perhaps they were trying to move the gold elsewhere. That’s just a guess.
Anyway, you can appeal and probably should. But it sounds kinda clear cut based on what you’ve said.
Good luck.
Yes I’m trying to appeal it now since I never actually purchased gold outside of the wow token. Maybe I did receive RMT and that’s why but clearly I tired to go about getting gold the legal way without RMT and I was still punished.
Well as I said good luck.
But, to set expectations, since I’ve been here I have not seen many like this overturned. Unsupported actions are just that vs, say, the AH, which is supported. Though, there are cases w/ the AH where one sells a massively overpriced items there for RMT gold xfer. Ultimately, they cannot read your mind and in their logs it almost certainly looks like you ‘brought gold’, well traded xgames for it.
Trading gold between game versions isn’t illegal, it’s unsupported. This means if you end up with RMT gold you are responsible for it.
You won’t get actioned for supported actions (Unless its something very suspicious like posting 1 Linen Cloth for 1000 gold on the AH).
The fact it seems is you traded a malicious actor clean gold from Retail (you aren’t actioned for that) and you received dirty gold from that malicious actor (likely on a level 1 toon) which also got actioned against and a likely a perma ban.
I always recommend to appeal (they could have gotten something wrong with the logs), however it will probably stay seeing as how often this happens.
If you hear your friends/guildies thinking about trading gold between game versions or servers tell them not to because they will get a suspension if they received dirty gold.
I did say in every chat log I was trading retail for classic gold, and they could easily see my account trading retail gold then receiving classic gold like 1 min later. Also unsupported is not against TOS. If it was against TOS it was said you can’t do it rather than unsupported. I was just hoping to get some GM eyes on it. Even if not full unban at least reduce the time, given its the first ever ban I received in 15+ years.
It’s neither ToS or against ToS, thats what unsupported it. It’s a grey area where you are responsible for whatever happens if things go wrong (such as receiving dirty gold).
That’s why it’s a 2 week suspension. That’s the minimum penalty for a 1st time offense.
Do they not do 3 day bans anymore?
Going back to this, the above is essentially the bare minimum to vet people in such trades. It’s wiser to do it exclusively with people you know.
No. It proved to have too little sting as a deterrent. I personally knew several people who’d do it for giggles when they had three days they couldn’t play the game anyway, back when those penalties would fall off.
Speaking of, they don’t anymore.
It all depends on the category of actions.
For profanity/toxicity (unless it’s VERY severe) is a 7 day silence, then a 7 day suspension, then 2 weeks, etc to 6 months.
RMT actions for the past few years, to my knowledge, are always 2 weeks for first offense.
Still appeal though. Every appeal is seen by a different GM and sometimes they miss something. You can keep appealing until they ask you to stop (and be kind when appealing) but we see this particular issue happen alot on the CS forum and they are rarely reduced or overturned unless there is human error.
Moving forward I’d strongly advise not finding out what happens after the 2 weeks. It’s not worth potentially losing a long held account with many memories. Grind the gold out as intended.
Yeah not worth the risk I still think I didn’t do anything against TOS but clearly they see anyone that ever came into contact with dirty gold as guilty even if they traded clean gold.
I appreciate all the responses and guidance. Just sad I’ll be a week behind getting rank 14 now and miss raiding with my guild for 2 weeks on the new BWL content.
The thing is logs, to my knowledge, are separate for every version of the game. (Retail, Classic, Cata)
What they see is you receiving dirty gold on classic and being the end point for that gold through an unsupported transaction.
Also the recipient of your retail gold was almost certainly an entirely different account than the one giving you the dirty gold.
I feel like someone could easily see I was buying tokens and then trading that gold and receiving gold 1 min later in classic. I don’t think that’s to difficult to put the pieces together. Even without the logs. I would be surprised if they can’t get log information from other version would probably some leg work though.
