Just wondering if going to Ironforge Airport and old Ironforge is forbidden in Classic as it was in Vanilla?

Safe to assume that if you couldn’t do something in Vanilla, you can’t do it in Classic, yes.
Please report anyone you see exploiting terrain, etc.
Even though exploring these areas don’t do any harm to the game, it is technically against the rules. No one is going to punish you for doing what is right. Many years ago, I used to be one of those “urban explorers”. If you ever were to report me for such an act, I would never hold anything against you.
Those are still areas that you should not be able to get to through normal means, so much like Vanilla, it might be prudent to stay out.

FYI
Later in Vanilla/Pre-BC they introduced functions that allowed them to catch and eject players in those areas. I don’t know if they stuck to those or the modern tactics in the regular servers.

I’d bet my bottom dollar that their toys are the same as in retail. Don’t necessarily think it’d be wise of them to gimp themselves and their detection tools.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it was true. Especially given the huge holes and drops in Stonetalon.
Or the mysterious GM island that they can niether confirm or deny lol.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they left it off the map along with the dev islands.
I used to explore around there. Think it’s silly to punish people for going to places like that, but so be it.
It’s because players could get stuck there and then it would take resources to rescue them… This was before they had the auto unstuck thing.

There’s also an old rumor about someone getting raid loot from one of the off-limits areas. I don’t remember if I was told whether or not it was true.
I managed to get myself to the far northern edge of the map north of Teldrassil once. Didn’t see a thing aside from the edge of the world ^~
