Didnt Blizzard confirm Layering exploiting wasnt a thing that was blown way out of proportion? They even nerfed it more to calm the raging clickbaiting twitch streamers/youtubers looking for gullible kids for views?
I’m not happy about the layering exploit, but that does not necessarily imply exploiting being behind pre-raid BiS.
In Vanilla, I completed a particularly epic 18-hour day wherein I got my UBRS seal; keyed for Onyxia, MC, and BWL; maxed the last 50ish points of Blacksmithing (through farming- I personally do not buy farmable mats); crafted most of my FR set; picked up, I think, four pieces of Valor; and leveled cooking to make my own consumables. It was the barrier of entry to a prolific raiding guild on the server, and I wanted to make sure I qualified for an invite before their raid night.

The problem is that it could, people could have exploited and that undermines anyone that didn’t exploit.
Lol, I have 3 pieces of pre-raid BiS…the 2 devilsaur I crafted myself and the other a quest neck and I’ve been 60 for over a week. Lost on both Dal’rend drops I’ve seen and HoJ. Clearly you’re correct…

This was supposed to be about community, remember? Accordingly, I’d say the groups/people that I’ve run with (and wiped with) know better, just as I know better when it comes to some of the friends I’ve made. I’m still having good time. My bank sucks, because the auction is dead, but that’s debatable whether we’d be here or not (exploiters flooding the market, or fresh servers and ain’t nobody got no money?).
The idea that wiping people’s progress would be an improvement is just brain-dead. People who honestly worked their way to whatever progress they have gotten will just quit rather than be forced to redo it all to satisfy the purists for whom nothing can ever be authentic enough.
Only the “more hardcore than thou” crowd will be left.

I’m for harsh punishment to the people who abused Dungeon layering. Rollback their characters to the first instance of them using the exploit and give them a temp ban depending on the severity of their abuse.
Well that’s cuz yer a hunter. Everyone knows hunters roll need on EVERYTHING.

Roll them back to level 1. And ban them from playing classic on any account for a month.
Worrying about what other people do, accomplish and earn is 100% of the game. Value is relative. If everyone has all the good gear, then it’s worthless.

You would have to IP ban them and there are ways around it. You’re not solving a problem because they would just make a new account.

It sucks, yes, but I’m not sure how this affects you directly? You can still gear up yourself. You are mad that some people cheated so you won’t play? I don’t get it.
It is a MMP. If you were playing poker and the other players kept pulling out hands with 5 aces, you would feel like not playing that either.
Except that he’s not losing…he literally doesn’t even have a hand to play yet.
Edit: And the people who did cheat are having all their stuff taken away most likely.

Yeah but what if the table had 50k players on it, with a few thousand games going on? And you weren’t allowed to join the table for a month? It’ll be sorted out by then.
The trade chat on our server has people selling STACKS of devilsaur leather…you can’t farm that much so fast and not be layer cheating. It totally destroys the challenge and game of trying to gather the leather the way it was intended.
