Since I’m not the necro here, let me say that it’s really easy to just check “appear offline” when you don’t want to be seen or tracked, and then go back to “online” when you’re ok with being seen.
I always figure that since I pay my sub, I can decide what I want to do with my online time. What others think doesn’t concern me.
