title. im just trying to reorganize my bars since the unpruning & if slam is completely pointless then ill have to rethink a few things.
Slam is our main Filler to proc tactician. Cast it when you aren’t mortal striking, or using overpower. If Fervor of Battle is your talent then its Whirlwind.
so if its just a single target fight and i have FoB talented, should i cast ww or slam? i would do the math but im never confident that there isnt some kind of hidden mechanics affecting things. really wish the tooltips would just tell the truth.
With FoB talented, your Whirlwind auto casts slam on the primary target. I wouldnt take slam off your bars but any effect regarding slam is tied into Whirlwind as long as FoB is talented
so in a single target scenario, which is more efficient? slam or ww (assuming FoB is talented)
Whirlwind, with FoB talented When you cast Whirlwind it auto casts Slam for free
so with FoB, theres no reason to ever actually use slam, right?
Thats a pretty safe assumption, But I wouldnt just unbind your slam entirely
why keep it on the bars if theres no scenario where ww isnt a more efficient use of rage though? i dont always have fob talented & ill keep slam where it is, but if someone did use fob exclusively, then whats the point of taking up an action bar spot with a move that would never get used?
& sorry if i seem dense, im just trying to make sure i understand. im very picky about my actionbars & ui in general & i dont want to waste space if i dont have to, or use a less efficient move because i was too lazy to make sure i was playing my spec properly.
Its probably my neurotic personal preference but I like to have each ability with its place. So that when I activate it I know where it is and what button to press. So for me I have whirlwind on 2 and Slam on 3. So that means that when FoB is active I use 2 and when its not I use 3.
Its probably a really dumb way of doing things but I hate having to constantly readjust my bars. If saving space is how you make sense of your skill bar then go for it. Its all personal preference, whatever makes sense to you.
oh no i agree, i want a final setup where i dont have to move anything until the next patch.
whats killing me is the differences between pve & pvp. with some talent setups, i have several more moves than with others. like where do i put them? should i put skullsplitter in a high-priority actionbar slot, or put it somewhere else since i dont use it in pvp? theres like 4 or 5 moves that im having this problem with. man the struggle is real.
I have that problem with arms especially. There are so many tools to utilize that each have their place. I like fury for that reason. Its not nearly as good in pvp but the fact that Im not having to move abilities around all the time is a huge advantage for me
You make a macro that casts slam if you don’t have FoB talented, and casts WW if you do. You put that on the bar, and no matter what, that’s your filler button.
since you mentioned PvP, even if you’re running FoB I’d personally keep an exclusive bind for slam just for sniping totems
Some of us have slots to spare, but you could drop it if you wanted, just means you have to put it back whenever you stop using fob
How do you make a macro that’s conditional on talents
This, i setup the macro button for FoB/Slam, so that in PVE i will be casting whirlwind while in PVP is using Slam just by switching talent.
on wowhead arms warrior guide:
#showtooltip
/cast [talent:3/2] Whirlwind; Slam
by using the same coding method, i also bind both rend and cleave in a single macro button.
Exactly what Chin said. I used to use a whirlwind/furious slash macro that was exactly the same.
I had this same thought a while back. Until recently yes we dont need to slam ever but I kept it on my bar because as arms I like slam animation.
Now I think situationally we might want to slam since it saves10 rage and if we need to be defensive in some situation having the rage to ignore pain and stuff may be important.
But if we’re just looking at damage then yes you can put slam away and save room on your bar. I don’t think anyone will go over logs and get mad that you never slam always whirlwind and even single target you can get off a bit more damage.
