Is there a Horde without Blood Elves?

I’ve been looking around in game and looking at population stats. There are a LOT of Blood Elves out and about. Having started in BC (a long time Alliance player) and never played Vanilla, I got to wondering. Without Blood Elves in the game, did anyone even play Horde? Is that why Blizzard made Blood Elves Horde aligned? I just can’t help but think that if Alliance actually got High Elves (instead of Horde and Blood Elves) then the faction balance would look something like 75% Alliance / 25% Horde.

What was the most popular Horde race before Blood Elves?

We’re the Horde now.

Here I thought this was a thread for players looking for a faction without elves.

That’s pretty much what I gather. I just find it odd that an IP that started out as Humans vs. Orcs turned into Humans vs. Blood Elves.

To be honest… this is me.

I didn’t even touch Horde until Blood Elves were implemented.

The Belves were added to increase the Horde’s numbers. So probably not.

Yes.

I can get behind this if the other characters don’t look like aliens/ people that go to walmart

I believe starting out alliance had a higher pop.

Blood elves finally added a “pretty race” to the faction alot of players desired to play but didn’t wanna play an ugly race.

That being said, those players are cowards and Tauren are clearly the prettiest race out there, like have you SEEN those hooves?

I’ve had and played a female tauren shaman since vanilla. There were lots of us Hordies back then.

Had my friends/family not already been Alliance back then I likely would have rolled an Undead Warlock.

Yes, but due in part to the Paladin class being a much better healer than Shaman (the only thing those classes were really used for in raiding), and the fact that we were pretty much all monstrous races, the Alliance tended to have far higher pop than we did.

In part, yes. I think there’s a developer interview out there somewhere that actually confirms it was a consideration for Blizzard at the time.

Maybe not that stark, but it would certainly tilt in the Alliances favor a lot more. Right now more than 1/3 of all Horde max level characters are Blood Elves. People like “pretty”.

Orc, same as today. The general proportion of Orc, Tauren, Undead, and Troll populations have been relatively stable with regards to each other since classic, despite the addition of new races.

…and I don’t even have one. How did I wind up with 4 blood elves and 0 orcs. I’m disappointed in myself.

The only thing i didnt like about horde pre blood elves and me forgetting the cows were lame hippies was every single race has back problems

And on top of that Mass Dispell at the time was a Dwarf Priest only spell. Back then Alliance was the clear overpowered faction for raiding.

Wasn’t fear ward originally a dwarf priest racial only too?

Actually, it was Fear Ward.
