What is the point of a profanity filter, if it doesn’t filter profanity?
If I had a copper piece for every time somebody says “anal” I’d be drowning in gold.
I need an addon/script that auto-ignores people that talk trash. I hope the ignore feature can handle a million people, because I suspect it will fill up fast.

I kinda wish that the filter was customizable, I don’t care much about profanity but I’d love to auto-filter a list of streamer names and such so I don’t have to read people spamming chat about them.

Right click -> report for -> Language then poof they disappear until you log off
advantages : auto report them and ignores whole account not just one character
disadvantages : if they are still online and you log off or disconnect and reconnect they are no longer ignored.
I did that for the first 50. Now I’m brushing up on my lua programming. Gonna write a script called “Trash Blocker”. Can configure unwanted words. Configure to auto ignore, auto report, if person is in your party, auto-kick, and if in guild, auto-remove. Then I can just ignore them all, and watch the “Trash Blocker” flash every time it flushes.

the only thing that came to mind was how the heck does copper magically turn into silver and silver into gold? Poor money exchanges never had a chance.
There are addons to accomplish any sort of filter you desire.
Even word replacement! Makes things hilarious.

I remember, in the beginning, there was NETIQUETTE. Google it. It quickly died, first by spammers and con artists, then rude people moved in, and finished killing it.
I understand where the OP is coming from because I have been considering letting my 9 year old son play with me. I have already decided that if I do, chat would be completely turned off on all channels, not just the chat filter. There wouldn’t be any grouping with random people, etc., just family and friends we know.
Anyways, yesterday in the stress test clearly showed me why just using a chat filter in WoW just don’t completely work. There was a pretty disturbing and disgusting conversation going on in general chat, and even with the chat filter on, it was just horrible. I don’t typically ignore many people and reporting is reserved for the extreme with me. I ended up putting many people on ignore and finally just left the channel because once one troll started, they had a following joining right in. I think it was actually the worst chat I had saw in some time in the game.
To the OP: You might want to try the mod Bad Boy. It’s a spam blocker, but I believe you can add certain words as well that it will filter. Not 100% on that, but it might be worth checking out.
You and I inhabited very different parts of the internet.
What most people today consider crude and offensive was pretty much just Tuesday for me back in the 90s.

People triggered by words shouldn’t even venture online. I know you snowflakes are trying to safespace every corner of the world, but short of threats and incitement of violence people have the right to say what they want to, you on the other hand do not have the right to not be offended. Just put your language filter on and tough it out sista’.

I am not hurt by any of this, but I would rather not have to read it. I usually have trade turned off and a giant ignore list.
