Is the profanity filter working? Lots of words I don't want to see

They are just gamer words!

yeah there is no consistency. Because similar words are filtered, don’t know why.

Btw it’s not a profane word, it’s actually a scientific word used in medical industry ALL THE TIME. You should google it’s definition and the area it refers to or development stages.

lol this made me laugh considering what OP finds offensive.

You seem like a rather, unsavory individual

I understand the OP’s plight though. I’d like my 12 year old to play with me but I think I’ll have to turn off general chat first.

Easy fix. /leave 1. I don’t think a single one of my characters have been in general chat since 2004. Problem solved!

It kind of reminds me of when Bart Simpson said “hell” at the dinner table. Marge yells at him to stop swearing and asks where he learned that word. Bart replies “at church”. Then Marge says, oh i guess its ok then.

I understand where the OP is coming from. I even agree, but since the age range (not even counting mental) picks up a whole group of young teens who think saying anything like that is funny - it’s going to be hard to not catch some of that when they get wound up.

Personally, I find the whole trade chat entertaining enough I usually leave it on unless I’m RPing with someone and then turn if off to avoid the distraction.

BUT - it’s certainly easy to turn off, and since very very little actual trade ever goes on in trade chat, it’s hardly missed.

Maybe you were talking about your cat? After all…

if you think that was bad, just wait until your kid goes to middle school
or maybe you’ll just homeschool him from the end of 5th grade until he gets a GED, or hope that he won’t be exposed to that sort of stuff in some private school

Get the “Badboy” addon. it will solve your problem.

Im sure you will say, “I shouldnt need to” and with a game that brings in millions every month, I would agree. But Blizzard has pushed off responsibilities such as this to addon developers since the games conception.

One of the small prices for having such a robust and customizable system.

i mean, maybe a 9 year old is just too young for the internet period then?

get them a console mate

ur going to have a lot more to worry about other than bad words for your child

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

Oh boy can’t handle swear words. Wait until you go outside in public you will probably scream in terror looking for a safe space.

Ah gotcha. So we should just expose our children to all kinds of filth and talk online where people are talking about having sex with animals and many other disturbing conversations where it looks as if people need some immediate psychiatric help?

No sorry, I’m not that parent who will just expose my nine year old to that trash. Your argument would make more sense if he was older.

I know my son will encounter things from his friends and others in school and other places. You mention middle school, he is three years from middle school. We have many talks so trust me, he’s not oblivious to the stupidity of this world. But I will not knowingly expose him to the trash I saw yesterday in chat, not at nine years old. The talk I saw yesterday would have had those people quickly banned in these forums and not suited for children. There are parental controls and ratings on movies, games, etc., for a reason. The game is rated T for teen, the chat I saw yesterday was definitely rated X and disgusting.

If you want to expose your young kids to that, go for it, but I won’t.

You would be correct

I don’t allow him free reign of the internet and uses a kid safe browser because well, let’s see here, he’s a kid. A console is what he plays games on, an Xbox and has a Switch. He plays online with real life friends and family only.

I was considering letting him play WoW with me and still am, but yeah, chat would be off.

I am not personally triggered by words. Foul language doesn’t really bother me. Well, I guess I should say I don’t like it much, but whatever. I don’t complain about that and the chat filter does filter it out.

It’s the really disturbing, truly twisted conversations you see on occasion that bothers me. That’s when I put people on ignore or just leave the channel. I just hope the people taking like that are just trolling and surely not being serious.

I always try to look at things objectively and what the OP said I agreed with because even though there is the chat filter, it doesn’t filter out some of that twisted stuff people like to try to look cool talking about. But me? I put them on ignore or leave the channel. If someone is being extreme by harassing someone badly or threatening, then I report them. I use the in game functions.
