Is the game dying? Should they stick to the "Just like release" attitude?

I thought you weren’t gonna stick around for responses.

Anyway, why do so many come in and complain about few people being in-game on way off peak hours?

I can understand if you were a private server player. Too many are accustomed to the “world server” style with tons of people on at all hours. But this is how vanilla was. Was always hit or miss on making groups or doing things with others at off peak hours and vanilla did okay.

My main isn’t even max level and wow is the only game I play. I definitely don’t want them to release any new content any time soon.

I feel you, but here’s what’s happening:

From before launch, we were all talking about the inevitable “drop-off.” Blizzard started with so few realms because they were trying to create a space that would be functional for us after the drop-off, and they were planning for an 80-90% exodus after phase 1 or 2.

Forum denizens called it the “tourists leaving.” Private server people and those feeling bitter and disenfranchised by Blizzard called it “when all the retail babies leave.” We’ve been talking about it and preparing for it, and a lot of people who were just excited for Classic liked to say we were trolling and that a drop-off wouldn’t happen.

Well. We knew it would. And it’s happening now.

There was a massive surge to Classic at the start from people who came back to look at it and be in it again for simple nostalgia. The people who left early were a trickle, and they left for things like, “Oh, it’s not as fun as I remembered,” or, “I’d forgotten how much time you really have to spend to play this game.” They came for a couple of weeks and played and caught up with old guildies and then left.

We didn’t really notice the population shift when they left because there was a second wave who came in and were convinced to try it out a few weeks after launch. People who weren’t going to play Classic saw their retail guild empty out or they had friends texting them with things like, “No, really, dude. It’s happening. It’s back for real. Come join us.”

So while the first wave was leaving, the first wave of late-comers was joining. A lot of guilds were moving to new servers and re-rolling. So we didn’t feel the leavers at that point.

The population has been dropping off very slowly throughout the first 6 weeks, and we didn’t feel it happening because as the leaving continued, layers were being reduced. The world still seemed full. Most guilds still had a healthy list of active daily loggers. Most people weren’t 60, yet, so everyone was focused on leveling and getting through zones. They weren’t counting how many 60’s were standing around in Ironforge or Orgrimmar, and the 60’s who were there were all super excited about first-down fights in UBRS and Ony and MC.

Now. It’s been a minute. Dust has settled. Huge chunks of the player base are at 60. Huge chunks of the player base are looking around and noticing that they don’t have 40 active 60s anymore. People got their Rag kill and realized they were done.

So now we’re here. We’re at the drop-off.

The game isn’t dying. The game is settling into the actual player base that will stay and be dedicated to Classic for the next calendar year. Don’t worry. Don’t despair. Just look around and see who is still playing with you. This is a time when guilds will start merging and friend lists will start guilding up together.

The people you see around you right now are the people who are staying. This is just the drop-off. And it’s okay.

Yes, they should stick to #nochanges

Unless you want to be hardcore playing you are not forced to do anything, you literally catch up really fast. The content is there, it’s up to you to do it or not.

A lot of us do.

There are more people who want BGs in now than those that dont.

No I didnt take a real survey, but its just logical. You have to be a little mentally impaired to have the only reason you dont want them in now is because they came out at the same time as another raid.

Its just an irrational motivation and most people are rational.

Kek. If by content, you mean pet battles, then yes, you can jump right into it. If by content you mean: mythic+, raiding, rated PvP, then no.

You can’t get into mythic+ keys which give good gear without good raider.io score. if you want to gear up by mythic+, you have to grind your score slowly and painfully. And to get into such grinding groups, you need good ilvl to start with.

For raiding, you need AotC achievements or high ilvl. Otherwise, you have to stick to normal raids which give bad gear.

Gear matters a lot in BFA PvP, especially the PVE trinkets. High rank essences are also a must, so that means you had to grind your neck level, which means you had to grind island expeditions to start with, and get ridiculous amount of BG honor. On every single alt individually.

But if I want to run transmog runs, sure, I can jump right in.

It IS about making money… using Classic’s schedule to bolster subsciptions in BfA down times. They aren’t really making “serious” money with Classic… it’s the store and expansion sales that brings it in. So schlepping it out to keep people subbed and paying money in the store is first and foremost.

Think Blizzard cares about quality experiences? Explain removing tier gear… doubling down on Titanforging… then removing that only to replace with a system far more RNG based and worse overall. (Corrupted gear)

On a more serious note, I think it’s too early to make a real judgement about how Classic is doing. We have people who have left for various reasons but it’s important to note that various things people wanted from classic simply aren’t here yet; the 50 quests, BGs and other components that people looked forward to won’t be released until later content phases.

A more reasonable time frame to judge the overall health of classic would be in about 4 months; by then most of the content will be out, the player base will have stabilized and we won’t be looking at release window popularity.

Yes, they’re likely doing things like that. But Ion and others aren’t sabotaging the game because Ion’s feelings are hurt

Dead, not dying. Dead.

Dam troll, Get it right!

Right there with you OP. Near 60, guild becoming progressively less active. Friends I’ve met in classic no longer even logging on. Losing interest.

I can hit 60, start collecting gear. But then what? No BGs, which is the main reason I even care to have gear. So it’s just log on for the dungeons, then log in for the raids. I haven’t been seeing any epic WPvP battles at all to hold me over.

For me, the joy of vanilla was being in a guild that would gear up in raids, then together we’d hit the battlegrounds! I can be patient I suppose, but that’s a lot of waiting. Hell, for me, AV was a part of leveling. Yet it’s ways away.

Not done yet, but I hear ya OP. Each day I log on less and less. Is Classic dying? IDK. Certainly not like BfA if so.

The game is probably now returning to more normal levels of players.

Tbh I actually look back fondly at those moments of solitude u felt in Azeroth during those early hours of the day.

I love the game but will be hanging it uo after I grind out my wintersaber mount on my paladin. Then just wait for BG’s

i dont think it’s dying just people waiting for new content especially bg’s and all that good stuff.

This literally what has happened to every game ever several months after release. I dont know why you expected people to no life till 6am everyday for years I guess?

This is not a surprise, and does not indicate anything about classic dying imo.

go to stv, i just logged on because i couldnt sleep. There’s a huge wpvp battle at Grom’gol its ridiculous, my only regret is that im not 60
