Is the game dying? Should they stick to the "Just like release" attitude?

I feel like it is… I mean people are logging on less and less. My server is pretty much dead in the am hours. Which I get most people are casual players. But I also feel like whats happening to me now is what happened to a lot of people. I’m feeling burned out. I havent even reached 60 yet and I just feel like there is nothing but grinding. I joined a pvp server because I love pvp… but theres really no place to pvp… world pvp is just ganks or 60s killing lowbies. Where are the BGs? do we really have to wait months to get em? Does the release of things really need to follow the original timeline? I mean. There’s less and less people on in my guild. Every other day the leader does a purge of inactive players and kicks 10-15 people that havent been on for weeks. A couple of people I made friends with at level 30 havent played for weeks, so I assume they kinda lost the interest as well.

I get the forum goers will say “well thats just your experience, theres alot of hardcore players” Yea its true there hardcore players… I see them in the AM… about 20 of them. Idk I guess I’m just venting because the closer I get to 60 I realize… What else is there to do? Just farm a few instances? Our guild core raiders dont even log on lol most just come on for raid nights then log back out afterwards.

Wow stream channel has definitely bled out. It was avg 100k viewers during the day and now the most I see is 30k. I mean Idk… I just feel like BGs and all the other instances should just be released already. Whats the point of letting the game die out just to try to revive it for a small period of time with these months apart releases? Sure some people will show up for honor kills… but a week later theyll realize nothing is really different. Then 3-4 months later BGs will finally come out and alot of people will take a look again… then maybe youll have a recurring crowd, but why wait? There are game breaking decisions that need to be made is all I’m saying. I love WoW but, I feel what the casual player feels. Its just not that interesting to just grind right now. People have busy lives, they like quick fun. Not farming for rep to get a enchant recipe. Bring BGs already!

ps. You guys can discuss this. I honestly just came here to vent and maybe give blizzard some insight in one of their casual players, because maybe I’m not alone on this. But I know the people who agree with me wont be here. So I’m not really coming back to check this post. But feel free to discuss. Im not trying to sht on WoW, I love this game. Just dont want to see it die out.

Make friends, talk, play your way. It’s an MMORPG not a RPG.

Its like I said… I know people in the forums dont see it that way. And honestly I think I was talking more to blizzard than to anyone else. Whatever anyone says or think doesnt change the fact that the servers are dead in the AM. People are playing less. Stream channel is bleeding out. And BGs wont come out for months. WoW classic is going to turn into retail. 3-4 populated servers that got merged and no new players buying in.

@ Zindan - I do… I love the people Ive met so far… thats the sad part… alot of them dont log on anymore.

skeletons everywhere i freakin tell ya

Lol thats cool… thats another thing though 5:1 horde-alliance ratio, almost everywhere. Which I dont mind though… love killing them. But makes it tough to find groups. Maybe thats the problem. Im in the wrong faction.

Is this not to be expected? I would think a good amount of the population, myself included, is waking up, getting ready for work, and then going to work. I’ve been going to sleep earlier and waking up a few hours earlier to level my alts through the heavily populated areas in the early morning but I’m sure I am in the minority. I can’t speak for your server, but I know mine is packed in the evenings.

What is wrong with this? Most people have to sleep and/or work.

True. You take it as a negative, but for me that’s one of the reasons I love classic and dislike retail.

In retail, you have to log in every day to do emissaries and other world quests, you have to grind your weekly 5 timewalking dungeons every few weeks, you have to grind your weekly conquest cap, you have to grind your island expeditions, and in addition to that, do the raid. I’m sure I’ve missed some of the chores. If you skip this, you will fall behind the curve. Your ilvl will not be high enough to get into groups, your raider.io will fall behind as a consequence, and you are out from interesting content for the rest of the patch. You gotta log in today, you hate it, but you must…

Well, you no longer have to, if you play classic. It’s beautiful. As long as you log in for one or two nights, you miss out on nothing. If you want, you can grind out some gold, you can gear up your alts… but you don’t have to. I love it!

And I think many people agree with me, since I was in a queue for one hour on reset day, months after release. The game is far from dying.

There is a dueling tournament going on, there were 20 thousand people watching last week. Asmongold, like him or not, keeps getting 40k+ viewers. The streams are very active, way more than retail.

True. But honor will come out in a few weeks. You’ll have insane world PvP, Tarren Mill vs Southshore will be a thing again. This massive wpvp was so popular years after BGs, they even included it as a brawl in retail. Enjoy 40 v 40 bloodbath while it lasts. it will not be the same when they introduce BGs.

No. Classic will remain classic. No new ‘amazing’ ideas will be introduced to lure in a new wave of players. And that is great.

Classic will always be a seasonal obsession, when a new phase drops there will be a huge influx of players for a month or two, just like in retail around patches/new raids.

Game definitely isn’t dying this has always been the nature of wow and really any other game it is impossible to retain every person that starts the game especially in the mmo genre which requires large investment. Releasing everything at once just takes away from things to look forward to… like sure we could just release phase 6 and leave it all on the table but what does that accomplish other than killing everything before it

oh no ur def on the right faction… when bgs come all those numbers wont matter… and u will see the horde how they really pvp lmao

I think things are going like Blizzard expected. They added “layering” because they expected a huge interest at first, and a big dropoff after that. It has only been 8 weeks, and already layering has almost ended.

Your post is not demanding Classic-plus. You are fine with Classic, but are complaining about the long delays before later phases. I can’t argue with you about that (fooey!). I don’t know why they put in those long delays either.

One idea: Blizzard doesn’t want to reward the tiny percent of players who kill thenselves to get to max level as soon as possible. For many people that simply isn’t possible (they have jobs, families). Blizzard doesn’t want to introduce max-level content until the “average player” has time to get to 60 plus gear themselves up.

But that’s a guess. I really don’t understand Blizzard.

It’s almost like phase one of WoW wasn’t the Shangrilah that people hyped it up as or something.

Not flaming, just commenting.

Your server is dead in the morning. Your experience != everyone’s experience.

I play on Bloodsail roughly from 5AM - 8AM ET. My toon is 32. I’ve never seen less than 20 people in each zone and I’ve never had a problem forming a pug for tougher quests.

Just sayin’. Maybe try a different server?

Edited to fix spelling error.

This happens in retail too. There is always a die off a month or so into an xpac, or patch. Alot of people who grinded hard have cleared rag and ony already. So they wont be back till the next big thing drops. They will add new content in a month or two, but they need time to let people like you and me see it before they start invalidating it. As far as ive heard honor will be in the next phase with bgs coming a phase or two later.

I do not feel like the game is dying at all. I’m having lots of fun playing and also I have lots of active friends.

If your guild is dying try joining “grave diggers” on grobbulus  many active people here.

I’m pretty sure that the drop off in participants was expected. Just like private servers, Classic is for a particular crowd with particular tastes. It’s not meant for everyone, and it sure as hell isn’t meant to be a replacement for Retail.

It’s here to capture the money that had been lost to private servers for years. Fine by me. I like Classic. I don’t need everyone else to like it, too, and neither should you.

is it dying? no, is it starting to lose the tourists and show who the real players are? yes. soon we will also see the true raid guilds pop up, not the “we rushed to 60 just to raid” as a portion of those will fail as some of them get bored as they rushed content (though some may just come back when new phases drop).

Also, in the AM, its always had less people playing, even in vanilla it had fewer people. I remember playing on Mal’Ganis in vanilla, and logged in around 3 AM once, saw like 2 people ever until 6 AM, saw a few more, but still very few. Its not a peak time, so not something you should expect to see a ton of people playing.

As for where are the BG’s well that is in a later phase. We at least know they are coming, as well as some of raids. If you are feeling burned out, log off, take a break, Classic is not a game you have to be on every day, you set your own pace.
