Everything is loading stupidly slowly for me. Is it for anyone else or is it just my internet being super slow? For example, I just switched alts and it took so long to get past the loading screen that the alt was afk when I got into the game. NPCs and characters are still struggling to load as I’m writing this. Earlier, I took another alt to Crown Chemical for some exp and by the time it finally loaded the last boss was almost dead. Got a hit in but couldn’t loot the main boss. No biggie since I wasn’t doing it for the loot.
Anyway, now that the game is fully loaded I’ll stop typing. Kinda thinking it’s on my end but worth checking.
Directly after the last Windows update a few days ago I have had similar issues. when ever a player or NPC loads in there is a stutter / hitching that occurs.
Could be a variety of things. Would be worth your time to look into:
If you have a harddrive, this is very likely the issue. Upgrading to a SSD would fix this.
If the area you’re in had a high amount of traffic, usually caused by world bosses and what not. The world server could be having an issue, causing long load times or disconnects.
If your internet is sluggish or you have packet loss.
I get that 90% of the time. I’ve ended afking myself. Even when I’m finally in world I wait for players and Npc’s to appear. Then if I take the wormhole somewhere I dangle in the air for at least 3 minutes. Going to Bastion I see the templates of black shaped spaces and lines of landscapes slowly loading - even mounting up I’m invisible.
Going anywhere, changing toons, just anything was such a pain I stopped playing for awhile because of it.
I’ve disabled addons and even had my sons (who played through Legion & BFA respectively,) and they couldn’t figure it out. Made sure nothing was running in the background.
My computer is connected directly to the router via ethernet cable. My sons bought me a brand new tower with the ssd and hdd - the RAM I forget, but is good according to them - just two years ago. (They built my first computer) My internet speed is good, not highend great, but good.
I’ve always noticed a slow down at the beginning of an expansion but it got faster with less people. By the end of BFA I was blazing through any content. I didn’t start having these problems until Shadowlands.
I was starting to think I needed more Internet speed until trying out FFXIV last Sept until recently. Everything loads fine and just slows a bit changing areas.
Conclusion: it’s on the WoW end. You’re not imagining it and you’re not the only one.
The younger (34) recently decided to check out SL. He’s got blazing fast everything! “Mom, you’re right, this is ____!”
So, yeah…have no clue and makes playing the game worse when you’re already trying to get stuff done.
PS, I also play in the morning when it’s not high traffic anyhow.
I had a Windows Update this morning. My entire computer was taking a hundred years to do anything until I turned Windows Defender active protection off for a couple minutes then back on again. It seems to be fine now, but it could be a suggestion!
I did a complete reinstall a while ago and a lot of this cleared up. Sometimes things get corrupted and need to be rebuilt from scratch. You can get much of the same by deleting your WTF, cache, and interface folders and letting the game rebuild it. I usually make a copy of it first.
You’ll need to setup your UI again though. But it’s generally worth it.
the biggest problem Im having the last week is…Im flying, i drop down and fire off a shot at something on the ground. boom. game shuts down. I get back in and if im lucky Im not dead yet.
Its happened at least a dozen times in a week.
This exact same thing happened 7 months ago after Windows and Blizz updates. It was resolved after Blizzard maintenance. The same problems are being reported again after the latest Windows update.
Bellow is a link to my old post. The problem was solved through Blizzard.
I think you probably can get better help on that Technical forum, I see people asking similar stuff there all the time and often getting official answerers.
It is for me off and on. It will be fast, then just stop. Or go super laggy. I actually was dc’d during a loading zone as I timed out.
Then later it was nearly instant.
We do have a geomagnetic solar flare. It may or may not be the issue though. It’s supposed to be fairly mild, but still can interfere somewhat with satellites. Which may also depend on where you live and what your IP provider is/how they handle stuff.
My internet is great, then it dives, then it’s fine for a while, then takes a hit again. grrrrrrr!
