With the Dreadlord plot twist I am wondering what the dominion of life is.
Metzen back in the day said that his inspiration for the Emerald Dream was “The Green” of the DC Universe.
DC Universe The Green is a “realm” that connects all the plant life of a given world. Emphasis on a given world. Earth’s The Green has the Parliament of Trees that picks one champion/representative (which is usually The Swamp Thing).
During WoD questing, we’re told about the Evergrowth (that is the Hivemind of all the Primals of Draenor) and the NPC Birchus mentions that there’s also the Overgrowth, which is a realm that the Primals must “return to” upon death. Which sounds like the Draenor version of the Emerald Dream. We were supposed to get content about this during the Faralohn subzone and raid, but that was cut.
So I think each world that has Life has a version of “The Green”, whether tied to a World Soul (like the Emerald Dream) or is simply a realm of life (like the Overgrowth) for each specific world, but there is also one super inter-dimensional, universal Plane of Life that connects all these separate “Greens”.
I did some speculation on this on reddit a while back, though some of my theories have already shifted:
I think the “Pantheon of Life” will be the sort of Parliament of Trees, a sort of manifestation/avatar of the Dream of each world, and I think perhaps Cenarius (whose title is Lord of the Forest) will be the sort of champion of the Dream or something, and we’ll get a champion of the Overgrowth in Draenor, etc.
So the dreadlord agent could be a member of Pantheon of Life.
Swampthing is awesome.
Nah, the book says that the operative has already gained the trust of “her target” and mentions how Ardenweald is tied to the Plane of Life, but we already have confirmation that Ardenweald’s portal in the Grove of Awakening is actually tied to the “Dream” of each world.
THEREFORE, I speculate the following:
It’s the fairy.
Yeah, I love him. I love all the characters rooted in “Dark Horse” DC Cosmology tbh (John Constantine, etc).
Wish we had a John Constantine in WoW (and that he was a Warlock lol)
I guess I wonder if the Emerald Dream is to Life as the Shadowlands is to Death. Or, if the Emerald Dream is just a pocket dimension of a greater Life plane, per Baalsamael’s remarks.
By that point, it’s just nomenclature. “Will the greater Plane of Life be called the Emerald Dream, and we’ve just been exploring part of it, or is the Plane of Life something else, and the Emerald Dream is the name of our pocket?”
Additional question: I really liked an old concept of the Emerald Dream, wherein it was the Titan’s sandbox they used to create the world of Azeroth. So, one might find half-finished mountains just standing around in some planes of the Dream. So, it had it’s “untouched Azeroth” parts, but also like, “incomplete Azeroth” parts too, which I think is a cool mix.
I wonder if they’ll touch on that? Like… Maybe the Emerald Dream is the name of the greater Life Plane, and the titans were working on different realms within that plane. That’d be cool!
“Working on” or meddling?
I really think the Titans kept trying to “Order” the universe but it’s sort of like trying to micromanage a forest so it’s “clean” to you; it’ll just lead to ecosystem instability.
But yeah IMO each world’s Dream/Overgrowth is a branch/root of the Plane of Life.
I hope it’s called like, the Emerald Growth or something.
