Is the Buyout News Good or Bad?

WoW on Xbox coming soon. Nay sayers found weeping behind their RGB cases.

With Age of Empires II DE they try to incentivize you to log in with an Xbox account with some rewards. However, I’ve never had to login with anything other than my regular Steam account credentials. I’ve also been able to buy expansion packs right on steam without having to go through Microsoft. Not saying this is how it will be with Wow. But, I can’t say I have seen any forced attempt to force a Microsoft account.

OP you are asking a question that only time can answer.
just get some  and wait to see if there is fire or not.

Shrug, for now.

With the reminder i got that they own Bethesda and thus ESO, and i have enough experience with ESO to like it more than WoW’s current sloppy horribly written state, i’m now hoping ESO rubs off on WoW a bit.

And then they followed up and cut cash shop bundle prices in like, half. As of today, with more changes to come. At least it is a positive sign. People are willing to shell out some extra cash for things in games if the process is easy and the prices are fair.

That’s the magic of it all…ready Cash on hand to buy it out…no loans or promises…Cash ready, that’s a chunk of change.

Doesn’t mean anything for the foreseeable future.
Long term? Way too early to make any prediction that isn’t a straight up guess.

No, Kotick will not be CEO, in 2023.

Yup I know, caught the numerous threads already on that. And the interwebs is buzzing with the news.

Microsoft got big as it is because they make calculated moves…obviously there’s a potential cash cow in the works.

Pretty sure all of these big companies are getting ready for NFTs that will be among gaming or a NFT platform…only reason i can see them pushing this hard and shelling out this much as gamers drop stupid amounts of money casually.

is it good or bad? More than likely it will be good as they don’t have HEAVY gaming experience as a company and clearly they’ve wanted to branch into the gaming industry grabbing a company like this will give them what they need and the funding will increase dramatically aswell.

Microsoft is good.

Not sure. But we should let Microsoft have a Chances.

I was on eventhubs which is a fighting game site. They are speculating potentially using Blizzard IPs in future projects like Killer Instinct. I can totally picture Kerrigan as a guest character in that game.

There was also that one thread about Blizzard characters in Fortnite. Endless possibilities with bringing players from various genres under crossover one game whether it is FPS, fighting games, MOBAs, and so on. MS could have their own Super Smash Bros Ultimate type of game. It could be a win bringing all the genres under one roof.

Too soon to tell.

It cant be worse then what Activision been doing thus far

It is bad. Lets just hope it is not rare-wares bad… Blizzard will not be making any new ips any time soon and the ones that do come out will either take years or will come out very quickly and be terrible. An increase in your subscription fee is very likely.

Less competitions is always a bad thing and we are starting to run out of third party game makers.

Wonder how much Microsoft will bribe congress to allow this one to go through…

I think it’s good news. I’m optimistic about it. Blizzard’s major problem is that it completely lacks resources to complete any of their projects because of horrible mismanagement. MS has a lot of resources. They basically have more money than God, and can just throw resources at Blizzard to get things rolling again.

Phil is clearly willing to use MS’s endless well of resources to take a lot of risks. He’s even said as much, he wants to take risks with games. He’s making a lot of deals that probably won’t pay off this year, or the next, but might create long term dividends.

Unfortunately, Forbes is morally bankrupt when it comes to objective journalism. There is no source in the article confirming he will leave. Additionally, even by their own reporting they say Bobby wouldn’t say one way or the other. It’s all rumor at this point. Activision/Blizz stock shot way up after the news of the merger. Which I am sure is what Bobby intended all along.

His position as CEO is incidental. Owning that much stock, he is going to have a lot of pull in the direction of the company takes regardless if he is running it.

I don’t get why there is so much Bobby hate personally. If you ask Bobby what a Covenant is he would probably look at you like you flipped your lid. Blaming him for HR issues at the company is completely ridiculous. The merger with Microsoft is the kind of thing Bobby does at the company. Not keeping an eye out for drunken cubicle crawls.

From Marketwatch: Kotick’s stock compensation has long been a sore point for some Activision investors, and now he stands to make millions while reportedly exiting videogame publisher after deal closes. Activision Blizzard Inc. Chief Executive Bobby Kotick stands to make nearly $400 million from Microsoft Corp.’s acquisition of the videogame maker, and could reap millions more whether he stays or not.
