Right, but they go up or down in relation to their current power or design. MSV however has been consistently avoided by hunters even when it was the strongest spec to play. Meaning it is not just the power level of the spec that makes people avoid it, but the design itself.

probably because they want to play range which is fine. It isnt for them its not a big deal. I enjoy the spec and like what blizzard did as it fits how I enjoy playing. Couldnt care less if other hunters wanna try it honestly.

Either way, as Metroid is now flat out shouting from the roof-tops how he’s just trolling or memeing, it’s obvious how he doesn’t mean much if anything when it comes to the SV vs RSV discussions. In fact, I do think he actually supports it, just he prefers to go about things the toxic way.

The RSV clique derails any thread pertaining to survival and turns it into a whine and larp party 100% of the time. That is generally true, however MSV wasnt even played when it was the strongest hunter spec. Its not played when a few people consider it fun, its not played when it is actually a strong spec. It very much seems like the vast majority of people dont like the spec and dont think its fun.
I mean it’s currently the lowest performing spec in terms of ST dps out of the 3 specs hunter has. It was even worse coming into shadowlands. Why would a hunter main purposely pick the worst performing spec for raid? Stigma spreads and the fotm trends do as well.
There’s nothing wrong with survival, sheep flock to the meta regardless of whether or not they’re good players.
I’m not sure about the past as I didn’t pay much attention to hunter, but as far as I can remember dps wise, survival was behind BM for most of BFA.
There’s also this weird occurrence of people flocking to BM (and to me it’s generally been a brain dead spec with a low skill floor for as long as I can remember), for the whole pet vibe stuff more than a quality spec.

What a perfect example of how Survival Hunters seamlessly switch between “Survival is the most powerful spec ever” and "Survival is underpowered and that’s why no one plays it.
The difference is not significant especially after the buffs.

In wotlk fire mage and spriest were my two main classes. In tbc I played warrior and some balance Druid. In legion I played resto shaman and frost mage. In the very brief time I played warlords I played lock and warrior. In BFA I played demo lock for all of 8.0, then when I returned in 8.3 I played windwalker and brewmaster. In SL I’ve played fire mage, frost dk, blood DK, unholy DK, survival hunter, prot warrior and I’m leveling a priest currently and will probably get my lock to 60 as well.
But obviously I ONLY play melee, and only melee classes are good classes. Clearly.
If you took a look at warcraft logs for statistics, any class with multiple dps specs has an outlier, and you wanna guess why? Because they don’t perform as well as the other specs in raid, but that doesn’t mean a spec is exclusively bad in all content. Survival is great for keys, literally brings nothing to raids in terms of buffs or utility, and is probably the squishiest of all melee dps specs, let only hunter being fairy squishy. Number of parses and number of players relies predominantly on performance and skill floor. Again see boomkin vs feral.
In any mmo I’ve played, games with a hunter class or spec, movie I’ve watched, the hunter/ranger fantasy has always involed ranged, melee, and beast related combat. There is nothing wrong with survival staying as melee.
Just because you don’t like the spec doesn’t mean others can’t enjoy it, play it, and find it fun. Get over yourself.
