Is Paladin hard to learn in Classic?

that’s actually incorrect…

What most people remember as Tier 1 Lawbringer:
https://classic.wowhead.com/item-set=208/lawbringer-armor

Actual Tier 1 Lawbringer at launch:
http://web.archive.org/web/20050207013827/http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/itemset.html?setid=208

What most people remember as Tier 2 Judgement:
https://classic.wowhead.com/item-set=217/judgement-armor

Actual Tier 2 Judgement at launch:
http://web.archive.org/web/20050207023842/http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/itemset.html?setid=217

In the end, Tier 1 Lawbringer went through 2 changes and Tier 2 Judgement actually went through 3 changes through the course of Vanilla:

Patch 1.0 Game Launch

  • Tier 1 - Full Retribution/Protection Hybrid (+STR +AGI +hit +crit +shield block)
  • Tier 2 - Full Retribution (with some items having +healing)

Patch 1.6 Blackwing Lair

  • Tier 1 - revamped to the hybrid Piece of excrement set that we all know
  • Tier 2 - All STR/AGI removed and each item given loads of +Healing

Patch 1.9 AQ and Paladin Revamp

  • Tier 1 - remains the lulz set we all still know and loathe
  • Tier 2 - STR added back and +Spell Damage/Healing instead of +Healing on all items

don’t worry; paladin is the easiest class in the game

noice.

I hate you letter requirement thingy.

Stupid-easy to learn.

Deceptively hard to master.

It is way too late to care about what Blizzard seems to have intended when the game was launched.

yes, i know that - I just wanted to retort as to how it was initially itemized at game launch compared to how it was by 1.12

Tier 1 was literally itemized for Ret/Prot hybrid playstyle at game launch

was it wrath or cata when paladins got different judgments? wisdom justice and light judgements.

I am not sure.
I know the holy power system was introduced in Cata. So maybe wrath?

incorrect - Holy Paladins literally do not want any Lawbringer gear - 5man dungeon blues are better for pure healing stats for each gear slot

even better the 5man dungeon blues are farmable instead of 1 Molten Core clear per week

In vanilla your judgment is defined by the seal you have active. All of those seals (wisdom, light, etc.) are in vanilla but they are unleashed by the same spell called judgment.

The different judgment spells came in wrath.

Yep, I believe that’s accurate.

It reduces the amount of procs. The proc rate in that video was pretty low. I don’t think it’s worth the 5 talent points.

What does “launch” have to do with anything? Are we getting the original launch gear? No. We are getting 1.12ish gear which doesn’t have a tanking set and Tier1 is a Healing set with its +healing.

Is there a way to figuratively not want something? Why wouldn’t a paladin not want T1? I would love to hear your reasoning behind that. I would also like to see the gear you’d put together in 5 mans that’s better than T1.

why would a HOLY Paladin waste their dkp on Tier 1 when there are other MUCH BETTER +healing drops in Molten Core and farmable from 5man dungeons?

Molten Core drops that are much better than Tier 1 for raw +healing:

  • Robe of Volatile Power
  • Salamander Scale Pants
  • Helm of the Lifegiver
  • Mana Igniting Cord
  • Wild Growth Spaulders

5man Dungeon Blues that are much better than Tier 1 for raw +healing:

  • I’m not going to list them all because it’s literally a phone book of cloth, leather and mail items from 5man dungeons that are better pound for pound than Tier 1 for raw healing
  • here’s the best example though

Robes of the Exalted
Item Level 63
Binds when picked up
Chest Cloth
89 Armor
+5 Intellect
+11 Spirit
Durability 80 / 80
Requires Level 58
Equip: [Increases healing done by spells and effects by up to 68.]

and here’s a GREEN armour item that’s MUCH better than the Tier 1 epic…

Gallant’s Wristguards
Item Level 60
Binds when picked up
Wrist Plate
249 Armor
+14 Intellect
Durability 40 / 40
Requires Level 55
Equip: [Increases healing done by spells and effects by up to 29.]

  • these bracers drop from the first guard in DM North - which can be solo pulled/killed and then farmed in about 5 mins, rinse, repeat until they drop

TLDR - the only thing a Holy Paladin would want/use 8/8 Tier 1 for is to provide group AoE heals while meleeing on Loatheb due to the 1min silence mechanic after casting a heal or cleanse. Other than that one fight, no Holy Paladin would use any piece of Tier 1 at all

Before you go any further notice I said:

I’d still like to be able to farm and +healing does nothing for soloing.

Don’t think you think other classes, druids and priests, will want those items?

DM is not available in Phase 1.

At least you actually posted some and good on you. And you are right that gear would be great for healing…only. I don’t know about you, but as a raiding Paladin I still had to farm so I could get the required consumables for raiding. I’d much rather use my DKP on a piece of gear that helped me heal and farm than spending DKP on items that only helped me heal. There isn’t much else out there that’s better for soloing at that level of gear, but you know what…it’s not like T1 falls from the sky or any gear for that matter. You can try to get those rare drops from dungeons, but the odds are it will take many many runs to get any of those items and the best strategy is to not pass on good gear when it drops even T1.

Remember the Paladin “1-shotting” Lord Kazzak? Good times.
