I’m one of those types of players who before I jump into any dungeon or raid for any mmo I watch a dozen guides so I know what I’m up against so I know what’s around with every corner.
Recently returning to Modern WoW and watching guides for mythics specifically dungeons and feel free to mock me for being daunted by them…
but to me it seems like the trash mobs sometimes have more mechanics than the bosses do. I do think that makes the dungeons more dynamic and interesting but when I’m watching a guide… coming from a mmo like FFXIV I’m used to learning bosses.
as a made up example for a Trash Pull in a mythic dungeon to me it’s like.
There are these Teddybears. Each Teddybear has a chance of adding one stack of adorableness to the tank, once the Tank has 3 adorable stacks he will attack a random player unless you can collect enough lolipops in the surrounding area to make the Teddybears passive. If you /dance with Stiches (elite teddy bear variant) he will become your ally for 30 seconds but only if you keep up your sugar rush levels… (oh and at some point an interrupt to something is involved or someone will die.)
To me that’s what Mythic trash pulls sound like… like wtf is that? Meanwhile the dungeons bosses are like… “Mwahaha! Can you handle my TWO Mechanics!! MWAHAAHA…” I can handle that stuff.
Is this stuff really as complex as I’m making it or am I overthinking this stuff?

M+ is going to play different every week. On Tyrannical weeks, you’re going to be spending a lot more time on bosses, so boss abilities are going to come at you over and over again. If you struggle on a specific boss, this is going to be an issue.
On fortified, bolstering weeks, the trash is going to live longer, and so you need to be more on top of trash mechanics.
Overall, I don’t think one is more difficult than the other in the grand scheme of things. At high enough levels, trash mechanics can kill you instantly, and so can boss mechanics.

It’s so peculiar to me how trash pulls work… like I thought they were supposed to be trash @___@ can’t I just like kill them really fast? Are the trash pulls really that big a deal?
I am the same way but since I main tank I feel like if my gear isn’t amazing, I don’t have the right mods, and know exactly what route to take and what to pull…than I’ll just get berated or kicked.
I’m sitting at i447 now so I have no excuse to put off starting to do these. Anyone know if there is a mod for M+ routes and any other mods I’ll need? I want to hop right into it but will have to pug so I want to be prepared.
The best way is to just jump right in and make the initial mistakes in low keys OP

It’s an idea that started in Diablo 3. The trash affix system that they put into that game made bosses trivial. Instead, everything was about the rotating abilities on the trash, and Diablo 3 was very much a trash-killing game.
When Diablo 3 flopped big time, Blizzard moved its design team over to WoW and they brought their ideas with them.

It depends on the affix of the week. For example this week one of the affixes is Butsting. Every time a non-boss enemy dies it adds a stacking dot to everyone in the group. In most pugs this can wipe you very very quickly. 5, 6, 7 stacks? Dead. Everyone’s dead.
The biggest thing with Mythic dungeons is just… use common sense. Check the affixes each week, read what they do, and adjust your play accordingly.
Don’t be the pug Havoc DH that Eye Beam + Focusing Iris burns down all the trash on every pull and wipes the party. Play smart and Mythics are easy peasy.

Mythic plus is easy and fun, Mythic raids have to many mechanics and saps your will to live plus fun is non existent there.

Thanks for all the support everyone ^v^ <3
Mythic+ is like 90% trash.
Also for the record, heck Bursting + Necrotic. I main a healer and all I have to say is hecccccck you for this week, Blizzard.
Thats subjective, nothing feels better wow wise than overcoming the hard bosses with your guild and feel that you are actually done with wow for the time being.
So what you are saying the only glory / fun thing about mythic raiding is actually completing it so you dont have to do it again. Sounds countering doesn’t it.
You really only learn from playing. Don’t just jump into a +10 dungeon you’ve never done before. I recommend doing mythic 0s and learning the mechanics, or mythic 1-4 which just have mob/boss scaling and no additional affixs but strong boss or strong trash week.

You will do it again to farm some stuff (nzoth mount and then carries for gold yey), but actually overcoming what the devs throw at you feels good in itself, like you are actually done, its different than getting aotc, or finishing a tier with half the raid done on mythic, you acomplished a goal and its common for CE raiders to take a break from time to time.
I agree it is satisfying to finish the most difficult of challenges but I also like to enjoy myself in the moment and if raiding from start to finish with the only enjoyment being at the very end is just not worth the effort in my own personal opinion.
If you’re referring to M+ it’s kind of like playing Dark Souls. It’s a beating session and you let pain be your teacher. Since most of the dungeon is pulling trash they have some mechanics to worry about. Repetition is going to be a great teacher in learning them and then you have to apply if the affixes are going to change their behavior.
If you’re wanting to learn you’re already well on your way by watching tons of videos so you’re already better then a lot of players. I’d say find a “WoW Hero” who runs them and is willing to share their knowledge through videos and maybe even streams.
Don’t stress yourself out and run them regularly and it’ll be second nature to you in no time. I believe in ya!

It depends on the week. With bursting, there have been some interesting pulls this week, where an overgeared party goes in and someone doesn’t read the affix, spams the AOE and… we’re all dead.

Check out MDT (Method dungeon tools). Its an addon and then on the raider io website, theres a super cool guy who gives you paths for every dungeon tailored around the affixes each week, along with tips. All you do is copy paste a text thread and smack it into the addon. Boom. Preset path you can follow and zone out to
