Is Melee Hunter going to be removed?

3 weapon types being usable by only 2 specs in the game is ridiculous.

If they aren’t going to have ranged survival, they need to add a new class that uses bows, xbows, and guns.

Bards maybe? Tinkers wouldn’t use bows, maybe not even xbows much, and they aren’t going to itemize raids with just guns. Also, Dark Rangers is another possibility.

dark ranger 4th spec for hunters blizz bring back the magic hunter with black arrow! nobody plays melee!

It was the defining class fantasy that I had wanted from warriors or paladins, bashing heads with a sword and board

I miss it. But it still lives on in prot warrior. Although it felt fun to run a sword and board and do decent numbers. Tank damage potential is not as strong as previous expansions.

In SoM, Marksmanship would be the optimal talent tree to play a Melee Hunter. Unless, there’s a 2nd hunter in the group, in that case both BM & Survival become legitimate candidates depending on the fight in question.

In TBC, BM would be the optimal talent tree.

Personally I don’t see how survival became melee to begin with. What about running up and poking something says survival?

Now beast master makes more sense. They should have gone that route. Rexxar was a beast master in warcraft 3 and he was melee. To me it would have made more sense.

Most likely, it was less about the Survival-aspect, and more about their misunderstanding for how the class played originally. They saw the Survival category in classic, having certain talents that in some way made you stronger in melee, or otherwise added elements tied to your melee-toolkit. They don’t realize that melee for hunters in vanilla(& classic) was/is only there for situational use, as a “complementary” feature to, in some ways, further your primary functions, those being ranged.

They set out to further separate the playstyles of each Core Specialization, during Legion development. Making SV melee was just an easy way to do so. No matter what most hunters actually wanted from the class.

Blizzard has made radical changes before, but I doubt they ever do it just because people on the forum are demanding it. I wouldn’t worry too much about the forums.

well they removed range from us. i said it before and i will say it again. ranged survival in mop especially and leading up into wod was the most polished spec in the game by light years. and it was taken from us.

and while i can simply say remove boring useless melee survival that dont make sense and hardly anyone cares about and bring back ranged, i do know that 1-2 people like yourself might enjoy it. so instead of asking for it to be taken from you i will simply ask for ranged survival to be brought back as a 4th spec exactly as it was in mop with the black arrow, lol and serpent spread multishot.

because thats the kind of nice guy i am.

why do people think hunters need a THIRD ranged spec

“oh look this one also uses bows and guns but it has spells with slightly different names”

not very creative my friends

What was so creative about the game’s 13th melee spec? Did Hunters need that? Judging by Survival’s representation for the last 5 years we really didn’t.

This was the worst implementation of survival, it was even more brain dead than BM. This was especially true in PvP, you ran around mashing dots and waited for things to die without any thought. It was basically affliction with every spell being instant cast with no positioning or movement requirements.

The current implementation of survival was a good move, with a far more unique and enjoyable play style than RSV.

why do mages need a THIRD ranged spec
why do warlock need a THIRD ranged spec

i bet if your spec was replaced with some dumpster melee nobody plays you’d be frustrated too

current sv is nowhere near as fluid and enjoyable as old survival

To be honest survival hunter should be a healing spec.

i quit playing shadow (my main since cata) in bfa because i was tired of the void priest nonsense, so i do actually know the frustration.

Do you play any content aside from LFR? Hard to take your “opinion” seriously or as fact if you’re not engaging in a variety of content while actually playing MSV.

i have more cutting edge than you. sv still bad.

Daily reminder that every single class/spec that has been added to the game since launch in 2004 has been melee, and that among the major reworks ranged specs have gotten, one turned the spec melee (Survival) and another involved taking iconic abilities away from the spec (Demonology) for the benefit of a future melee class (DH). Pretty much agree w/ everything Bepples has said here. Hunters didn’t need a melee spec, the fact that virtually every possible source has had SV as the least played spec in the game every patch since the rework is proof of this.

One point I would like to address: It’s true that current Survival fits a unique thematic niche, and no other spec really fits the fantasy of a prehistoric spear wielder. However, 1). Fulfilling that fantasy shouldn’t come at the expense of a fantasy that already existed and people were enjoying. 2). It’s not possible for Blizzard to cater to every conceivable gameplay fantasy, nor should they try to do so, the fact the MSV is so unpopular is probably a good indicator that it was probably not worth Blizzard’s time to create this particular concept, and they should have just kept the identity that SV had when it was ranged.

And opinion still isn’t fact.
