Hi there. I’m very concerned about installing Synergy as I’ve read people say its bannable on Reddit but never once heard Blizzard say it is. This program allows you to use one keyboard and mouse between two devices. For instance in my case, I have a Mac Mini and also a PC and 2 monitors and I use an audio mixer between both but current am only using a USB KVM, software kvm would be a lot easier. Would love an answer from a developer or at very least a customer service rep.
I am sorry, but Blizzard does not really provide a list of software they approve or disapprove. If they don’t make it and can’t control it, they really can’t comment on it.
If you are worried something may be seen as automation of any kind, including rotations or macros, don’t do it. If it is something to “streamline” multiboxing, don’t do it. Those things would cause issues.
It does none of these things. It can not be used for botting if that’s what you’re referring to, its meant to use your mouse on one pc and mac via Ethernet.
Darth is almost certainly correct on this. Blizz has stated their rules for appropriate software and don’t go much further than that.
I’d stick with the USB KVM, personally. None of the KVM solutions are ideal, they all have drawbacks and plusses. The USB option does not come with a wow ban potential side effect.
I understand that, just sucks that Blizzard can choose to ban people even if the software is non-malicious. I’ve seen it happen. In fact, they banned my 20 year account and I spent 3 weeks fighting it for them to tell me it was a mistake. You can see why i’m cautious. I think anyone in my position would be.
I do realize how thin their customer support is lately, I don’t want to be taking chances and having to deal with that bs again for something they messed up in the first place.
I’ve used KVM’s before, a number of them, they have hardware ones and usb ones and the software solutions.
If you are just running 2 systems and piping the sound through an external mixer for shows/whatever while playing, maybe consider a 4-6" (or so) second keyboard/mouse lift. It’s pretty clean and there is none of the KVM delays when switching boxes for input. Anyway, good luck. Yes best to be cautious, esp on old accounts you enjoy playing.
The USB KVM I use now is not bad, but it does require me to click a button when I want to switch between devices. The nice thing about Synergy is its seemless. I’ve use it in the past and really enjoyed it. I dont have space for another keyboard unfort.
CS hasnt changed nor is spread thin GMS cover every blizzard game not just wow they still have to folow policy thats set by the developers. THere also hasnt been a reduction in GMS either.
There is a group that deals with accessiblity. I remember someone linking a way to contact them. Perhaps you can contact the accessibility peeps and see what they think. But, I’ll be honest, I am not confident anyone will give you a def yes or no. That said, perhaps the accessibility group is an avenue to look at.
Again, good luck. I’d stick with the manual usb, though.
Um, while that was true in the past, except 2012. I don’t think it is true anymore after the Microsoft layoffs this year. Staffing has changed.
I am afraid they can’t give “permission” either. Their main role is to take feedback about issues in games that can be improved to be more accessible. They help the Devs for all the Blizz games to understand the needs of the accessibility community, how those needs impact games, how games can be improved.
There have been a ton of changes to add accessibility features to Blizz games as a result, but they don’t give permission for use of specific software/hardware.
They have an email, but it is not really a way to open a conversation about software I don’t think.
Vrak and Orly’s team is the same. They are a very small customer facing Forum Support Team who handles the CS forums, and CS Twitter messaging. They also now handle much of the forum Moderation.
Other teams, are not the same anymore. I don’t know the details of it though. Certainly nothing I can publicly share.
They are not hiding something. It is not a secret or anything.
Blizzard does not make or control third party software. They don’t know what is in it, what it is capable of, or what may change in the future. So even if it is ok today, it may not be tomorrow. They don’t have a system where people can submit software to Blizzard, have Blizzard review it, and have Blizzard approve it. That would have be done every build change to maintain “approval”. It is not realistic to do that.
They set up the policies and we, as players, are expected to decide if the software we want to use violates them. Most things that don’t touch WoW are fine BUT there are exceptions.
Streamlining multiboxing in particular is not allowed. We can’t use software or hardware to do it. That is the rule I suspect you would run into issues with. It has to be totally manual.
We also can’t have automation programs like Autohotkey running in memory when WoW is running because it can be used to streamline multiboxing between game instances.
I am sorry you feel that way. That is not my intention. My intention is to explain that Blizzard can’t approve things for you. They can’t promise you that some software or hardware they don’t control won’t get you in trouble.
I would only believe this particular forum over any other. Do NOT believe what you read on reddit or elsewhere, particularly YouTube as they are generally getting paid for clicks.
