Before the advent of LFD/R tools there was a world wide Looking For Group Channel in Vanilla that you could see by typing /join LookingForGroup. Is it being included in Classic?
People back in my day in KJ used /join World for WTS LFG troll spam ETC so this’ll probably be back in classic I’m not to sure about Lookingforgroup that was more so around BC due to the Dungi finder it had going on there.

trade was localized to the cities the LFG Channel allowed you to see who was looking for dungeon groups no matter where your character was in the world.
im curious if they put /worlddefense back in as i never got to play a beta to see if it would go off.
Everybody overwhelming joins a /world or /global chat on private servers. Its really nice looking for people or trolling but there’s so much traffic that normally you only join it when you need something

It should exist, and you should use it. Don’t use the troll filled world chat for group posts. This private server meta channel needs to stop being used for group posts.

yeah those are other options but there was a specific LFG channel in the game…from a wiki
“With patch 1.11.2, Blizzard has made the decision to, by default, deactivate the LFG channel. Players can join it by typing /join LFG , according to the patch log.”
though I think you had to type the full thing out /join lookingforgroup…see blue post from 2015

Blizzard never had an official global chat channel despite thousands asking for it. The closest that we ever got was around Wotlk’s global LFG chat which became abused and then blizzard ended that.
People want to chat, troll, sell things, recruit, and have fun. Its not blizzards place to police the chat or say what communications we can or cannot have. If you don’t like it, don’t join the chat. Such ridiculous attitude mirrors the stupidity of people who take their chat filter off and then report people for cursing.
It was /4 from what I remember.

Its the fastest way to put a group together or sell an expensive item. If I’m in a serious encounter I usually just leave it due to spam. The chat is undeniably a great tool.

LookingForGroup was the official global chat channel. It’s only lasted a few patches (including 1.12) and was removed in TBC on top of being opt-in unlike general/trade chats.
In the beta so far I already saw people using /world and /lfg , so even if not in an official capacity I’m sure there will be something.
No, you’re thinking of the one that was in the major cities. The global channel only lasted less than a week and then Blizzard scrapped it and went back to city only because it was nonstop chuck norris spam 24/7.
Pre-1.9: LFG was a zone-only chat and worked the same as /general
1.9: LFG made “global” but cities-only, so it worked the exact same as /trade
1.11: LFG made fully global, but was made opt-in in 1.11.2
2.0.1: LFG was removed because Blizz wanted people to use the LFG tool introduced in TBC
Just because it was made opt-in doesn’t mean it was removed. It was there in 1.12.
