Is it time to change the system?

I usually dont post links to videos but I will do it here. I feel this video perfectly summarises how people are feeling lately.

Something has to change. Blizz, communicate with us.

Wait so youā€™re telling me queuing for 30min just to go 3-3 and waist your time is not fun ?? ā€˜ā€˜Pikachu faceā€™ā€™

I dont get bringing up this point when there is 10000x better points to make. yeah it feels bad but going 3-3 should never reward a + at equal mmr or rating is completely meaningless.

I think the people who push through this horrendous system to achieve a title and mount skin are mentally insane. The entire design is so anti-fun its unreal. Iā€™m going to play Street Fighter 6.

Never said it should. Iā€™m talking about the system as a whole. Iā€™m describing the experience of a lot of people and itā€™s not fun.

That is the point 99% of the time that statement is made. Well It seems to be what majority of players who pvp are doing so must not be the popular opinion.

the no inflation early season sucks all my main toons are 2k-2.2k mmr and are pretty much unplayable unless you que at X time of day and Iā€™m forced to play alts or just not play at all SS ques are hour + havenā€™t done SS since s1 because this

went on a win streak on my main druid to 2300mmr and its pretty much impossible to get ques unless i check twitch streams to see if people are qing / they are getting ques

Put no cap on mmr.

Let people get all rewards except for titles for x number of wins in a season to give lesser skilled players a way to earn rewards throughout the season. Requires wins not games play to encourage better play. For example, 50 wins to unlock the free tier piece, 500 wins to unlock transmog and 1000 wins to unlock glad mount.

If everyone had a way to unlock the pvp rewards through other means other than mmr, it would now be an achievable goal which would encourage way more players to play pvp.

I saw this video yesterday too. Normally I donā€™t care for Ven or his views because like most of my fellow Canadians itā€™s just too soft and inconsistent.

He spent an amount of time talking about rating not meaning anything because everyone waits till the end of season for inflation to kick in, while also saying things like youā€™re pointing out which would invalidate rating far more.

I canā€™t think of a single league that awards points for losing. Thatā€™s nonsense and itā€™s exactly the spirit that is wrecking society as a whole. Regular people will see that and not want to participate because regular people would understand quickly that adding a feature like that would make the game not really worth playing.

Things like that cheapen and devalue competition.

Where he did talk about valuable information was the deflation, which was artificial and all the other things that arrest progress that Blizzard forces on us in the name of ā€˜preserving the experience for casuals.ā€™ Which is nonsense, if they really wanted to do that theyā€™d suspend people for smurfing instead of capping conquest per week for the first half of the season. Not letting glads climb out of the rat leagues seems another way to actively sabotage the player experience and I canā€™t imagine itā€™s too fun for them all the time either.

Overall not a bad video, less whining than most of his others.

One major issue I have is that these streamers who want ultra dampening meta to come back via damage nerfs always miss-represent (or lie) about why heals donā€™t want to q shuffle. Firstly its the whack mmr/cr system, secondly itā€™s way harder to co ordinate with your team in a mode thatā€™s ment for that co ordination. There are a lot of cds in the game now and win conditions are way different than even SL, with all that the reliance on communication became more not less. No, this isnā€™t a lead into ā€˜classes should have less buttonsā€™ Iā€™m simply pointing out that for a variety of reasons that have nothing to do with game balance heals are not incentivized to q.

I can sit 40 min q on shadow or .005s q on Disc. I choose shadow. Why? Rigged solo mmr/cr for heals.

I didnā€™t watch this video because of what looks to be a gray cardigan sweater

But based on responses in this thread, Iā€™d like to add: rss is not fun, 3v3 is built for voice, and just slapping mega-damp on a no-voice 3s q was the most toxic imaginable version of a solo q

I didnā€™t say ā€œgames playedā€ I said games won.

You do realize that if we went with this system and you needed 1000 wins to get the glad mount, that is a ton of games that someone has to play in a season. Letā€™s say someone has a 30% win rate, this person has to play 3,333 games in a season. If 40% win rate then they have to play 2500 games. And of course, if they have a 50% win rate that is 2000 games. Finally if you have a 60% win rate, then youā€™ll just get it with your rating anyway.

If you no life this game then this number of games may not sound like itā€™s that many. But for people that have a life; and considering the age of wow players tends to fall in the late 20s to early 40s age, which means a majority of them do, you arenā€™t going to see a huge spike in people that have these things. However, for many people it will feel achievable which will increase the player count in pvp.

surprised this hasnt been marked as ā€œtrollingā€ or ā€œspamā€ yet . For some reason the arena forums dont like streamers lol

I do think think so , I think it would achieve the opposite, Iā€™m not investing 1000 WINS for a mount let alone anything in WoW, nor is the average player :man_shrugging:t5: which most what WoW is now. Average players

I can understand that - and to be honest these were just random numbers I threw out there. (the 50, 500 and 1000 wins) If they wanted to change the numbers to be lower Iā€™d be fine with that as well and it was essentially the idea that I was going for.

Hereā€™s what needs to change:

  1. Healers gatekeep queue times, so create content that requires less Healers.

This is why Blitz is going to succeed.

  1. There arenā€™t enough cosmetic rewards, and what exists is largely gatekept by rating. Everyone knows itā€™s easier to get rating late in the season after inflation ramps up, so some people donā€™t queue til late season.

So, we need some cosmetic rewards that arenā€™t gatekept by rating, and just reward you for playing the game. Like a monthly version of the Vicious Saddle mounts and recolored armor sets. Or a PvP cosmetic vendor with its own currency.

and in your opinion what would you consider an ā€œaverageā€ pvper right now? just curious :flushed: :face_with_peeking_eye:

I agree with what you are saying but not fully. Yes wins for rewards is good but it should be at certain rating thresholds. Silver, Gold, Plat wins etc. This means you can earn rewards at anytime and dont need to wait for inflation.

More rewards and rewards types are important. A mount, title, enchant, cosmetic glyphs are some examples.

Imagine having a custom flag of ownership that you change through unlocks from pvp (think a better version of guild tabard).

Another idea would be to give players access to a pvp hall for achieving wins over a certain rank. This is similar to the officers lounge in classic wow.

My point is, blizzard has many ways to award players for pvp. If they want people to play add this in! People dont want to play healer to go 3-3 and lose mmr while having frustrated dps flame them for not playing perfectly (btw the dps are sitting 1h queues).
