Is It Time for Anduin (and the Whole Cast) to Finally Grow Up?

Good then they’ll see this:

But by saying it about someone who represents them, you might as well be :dracthyr_shrug:

How so?

Fiction is never “just” fiction. We can debate how well Anduin is written but the way he behaves is a clear result of having gone through some terrible things. People are going to see themselves in him when they have, likewise, gone through terrible things.

I don’t think it’s a particularly controversial stance to say that society’s standards and expectations on how men react to trauma and express their emotions is not conducive to their mental health. How we interact with stories is part of that.

What if I’ve been through terrible things?

I never said anything about that.

Then I am sorry. I like you and wouldn’t wish that on you.

If you’re saying you don’t relate to Anduin, that’s fine. I’m not saying that everyone who has suffered will. But some will.

You didn’t have to. Calling a man expressing emotions and struggling with trauma “whiny” does that.

I had a similar conversation with Rosenivy because they also assumed I was picking on him for being a man.

It honestly doesn’t matter to me what gender the character is. I would have said they were whiny if the character was female.

And I like you too, even after this conversation. I don’t mind blunt discussions.

Don’t the opening cinematic for TWW have thrall basically telling anduin its time to get over it and you needed time to heal but lets deal with that big sword or something or another?

Oh yes, let’s tell the depressed person to just stop being depressed. That always works.

“Life influences art.” Not going to read the rest of your wall of text as you’re already off the mark.

I feel like the evil!Anduin was such an undercooked plotline in Shadowlands that I just can’t care about this arc of his. I remember he had this line where he was like “How can I be forgiven after all the terrible things I’ve done?” and I was thinking what did you even do, his big cinematic moment was stabbing blue mommy but blizzard couldn’t even kill her off (even though there was a ton of characters that could fill her role). He needed more to do in Shadowlands perhaps kill some characters and then this plotline would be a lot more substantial

And honestly… Bastion would cause more PTSD to Anduin than the possession and domination…he has a phobia of BELLS and their chiming after MoP.

ROFL a few sentences is a “wall of text.”

What this really says to me is you got nothing.

It’s five paragraphs; you can’t even represent yourself truthfully let alone your argument. Cheers, hun.

EDIT: Hidden profile. Every time…

Thank you for linking/typing this out because people love to meme about him being beautiful boy king (even tho, y’know :smirk:) and weak political leader. Critical thinking skills about character motivations that don’t involve violence goes right over a lot of the wow player base and that sucks bc seeing anduin begin to heal or even come to terms with his more recent trauma is great.

Which is too daunting for you to read? ROFL

What are you looking for?

Oh, you want me to compare my character’s trauma to Anduin’s? Or maybe you’re after the real-life stuff, the kind of things that’d get me banned if I spelled them out. Let’s just say I’ve been through my share of darkness, but I’ve risen above it, just like people do. Not a king, no fancy titles, but I’ve got a family, kids, and a life I’ve fought for, and I sure as hell won’t let them suffer like I did.

And hey, if you want to talk Perfectia, you can dive into my fan fiction and see for yourself. She’s got her own list of traumas that could rival Anduin’s pity party, and let’s be real: most of his life has been spent eating three square meals, with a roof over his head and people who genuinely cared about him. There are kids in the real world who’d kill for just a fraction of that.

Look, I get it, trauma is real, but it doesn’t give anyone a free pass to wallow forever. Whether you’ve been through a war, had the worst upbringing imaginable, or just had parents who pushed you too hard, the message stands: life keeps moving. So maybe instead of listing out every bullet point of misery like it’s some badge of honor, it’s time for Anduin, and anyone still clinging to their tragic backstory, to grow up.

What a lot of people seem to not realize is that, The Alliance, at the end of the Second War sent all the Orcs into Concentration Camps, then put individuals such as Blackmoore and Garithos in positions of authority… Now what real-world comparison could you make here? Technically you could argue that The Alliance, are actually the Bad Guys, given their fixation on Humans and sidelining the rest of the characters (and races) for much of the plotline…

Essentially, when was the last time The Horde took centre stage as the protagonists for two consecutive content patches - let alone, expansions?

Technically Lordaeron is the nation that oversaw and ran a lot of those camps, and appointed Garithos.

Which, as the pro-Horde posters on the forums like to remind us, Lordaeron’s people are now the Forsaken.

So if the Orcs are upset about it, they might wanna take it up with their Forsaken allies.

You’ve hit the nail on the head, mon ami. Heroes and villains? Just the same folks doing the same grimy deeds, but with different banners waving overhead. It’s all about perspective, one person’s liberator is another’s war criminal. And you know what? I’ve gotta hand it to Blizzard for pulling off the ultimate war simulation. They’ve got players doing exactly what real people do in times of conflict: cheer on their side’s atrocities like it’s the Super Bowl while demonizing the other guys like they’ve personally ruined the nacho dip.

You read the lore, you feel the rage, and you think your faction’s got it all figured out. Meanwhile, you’re playing the same game, just from a different angle. Makes you wonder, doesn’t it? Next time you’re justifying some in-game war crime or trashing the other faction’s ‘villainy,’ take a second and ponder the parallels. Whether you’re waving a Horde flag in Orgrimmar or watching the nightly news… it’s all just a matter of where you’re standing, isn’t it?
