There is no real life comparison to make to being invaded by a race of blood thirsty barbarians hopped up on demon blood from another world whose singular intention is to wipe out all sentient life on Earth.
I’d say the humans of Azeroth were showing mercy by putting the Orcs into camps till they could figure out what to do with them. They could, and maybe should, have just wiped them all out once the war was over.
Maybe, darling, you should finish the story campaign before writing up an enormous whinge-post about the story? Said whinge-post is completely undermined by the fact that you have clearly either not finished the story, or it went in one ear and out the other.
Literally Anduin grows up in precisely the way you’re crying that he doesn’t. It’s literally one of the main subjects of the end of the campaign. For god’s sake - some people will moan about anything, no matter how ridiculous and obviously false.
Except for the whole scenario of a self-inflicted attack used to justify invading a third-world country for its resources, I’m sure you know the one I’m referring to. It’s a theory, but it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility, especially if you’ve spoken to translators or English speakers who lived in Iraq like I have. Real war, as they tell it, is far worse than any game or story can capture unless maybe some veterans are on the development team.
But honestly, your Night Elf character just proves my point. When we justify cruelty by saying, ‘It’s not so bad,’ we’re only trying to make ourselves feel better. And sure, it’s easier to sleep at night thinking that way, but having these conversations matters. It’s the hesitation before pulling the trigger that keeps us human, I know it did for me.
Okay what should the Alliance have done with the Orcs then?
Remember, this isn’t modern day Thrall’s Horde we are talking about, not even the Iron Horde of WoD. This was the full blown demon blood infused killing machines version of the Horde that invaded Azeroth for the singular purpose of committing genocide on all the sentient races of the Azeroth.
If you can’t send them back, and if you aren’t going to wipe them out entirely, what do you do with them then?
Anduin has been growing up, hell he started WoW as a child, was the leader of the alliance and is now finding what it means to be truly brave in the face of certain death. Hell, he wanted to be Brave because he thought it would bring the light back so he did what his Father did back in Legion, and it didn’t work. It nearly got him killed for NO reason.
Jaina watched as everything she held dear was destroyed in the blink of an eye by the Horde, of course she would hate them, but she also learned that that blind hatred was misguided. To your Credit, I don’t know if she ever did apologize for almost destroyed ALL of Orgimmar, but since most don’t know that that almost happened in the games, would maybe be out of place.
This entire expansion has been them trying to overcome adversary and push forward. I hate to tell ya this mate, but emotions are real and ignoring them doesn’t make it better. People with Trauma can relate to what the characters have been through. It’s OK that you can’t, but they aren’t sitting around doing nothing, if anything this is what it means TO be grown up. To confront and deal with difficulties, both physical, and emotional.
I love the novels but boy do they put some rather important stuff in there and just expect people to know it. Think they have eased up on that a bit recently, but wow was it bad not too long ago!
Oh là là, look at history, chérie, there are plenty of Japanese living peacefully in Hawaii now, no? Integration happened even after a terrible conflict. So why not the Orcs, hein? If Thrall, or any Orc without a name that literally means ‘slave’, had been shown some fair treatment and a little education, the story could’ve been very different. But bien sûr, that doesn’t make for a thrilling, blood-soaked fantasy epic, does it? Instead, we could’ve had the fantasy version of Boy Meets World, a tale of reconciliation, learning, and living together. Not as bloody, but maybe a bit more… hopeful, eh?
You keep missing the “infused with demon blood monsters” part. This wasn’t just another nation fighting for resources. The Horde at the time were literal killing machines, that was all they did. They made a whole highway out of Draenei bones, remember?
Ah, yes, the ‘demon blood-infused killing machines’, sounds like something straight out of a developer’s darkest fantasies, non? I mean, who even decided that building a road out of bones was a good idea? That’s not just Orcs with demon blood, that’s pure, over-the-top, theatrical villainy! But hey, maybe if someone had stepped in earlier with a little, I don’t know, ‘integration program’ or ‘rehabilitation magic,’ we could’ve avoided the whole bone highway. It’s not just about what they did, but who was telling the story, n’est-ce pas?
