My guild has a number of people who want leather belts as their legendary so they started funneling skins to me so that I could level up my belt crafting. Once I had enough to get started, I crafted 15 legendary belts… for mail. It was absolutely a “d’oh” moment on my part. My first thought was to try an item restoration since that’s a lot of leather to just go up in smoke like that. But the item restoration system doesn’t seem to have an option for reclaiming items lost via crafting. So I wanted to ask if there was any way to “un-craft” an item so that I could get those mats back and actually level up leather belts instead of mail. I still have the 15 mail belts in my inventory just in case. I have a timestamp for when the craft happened as well due to the timestamps from the chat in the Discord server. It was 6:54pm EST, 7/28/21 outside the Stormwind auction house.
And yes, my guild absolutely had a good laugh at my expense in Discord chat.
That was my fear. A couple of my guild-mates have already offered to get together for a skinning farming party this weekend to help me replenish the supply. But I figured that even if it was a long-shot I should see if it was possible.
It sounds like something worth suggesting that the devs add to the game, in the appropriate forum. Probably the Professions forum or the in-game suggestion feature.
mmm best option id suggest, sell them on the AH. Although belts are one of the worst pieces right now for mail based leggos. But you should be able to sell them for enough to cover just buying leather.
They’re rank 1s. If they sell at all I’ll get maybe 10k for the entire lot. But I don’t see myself successfully selling 15 rank 1 mail belts anytime soon. It wouldn’t be anywhere near the cost of the leather.
So an update on this, since I got a response from a GM on my ticket, it sounds like it IS possible to un-craft an item since the response made it sound like it was, but the GM said that I had waited too long to contact support so they could not do it.
I am extremely annoyed because I created the ticket seconds after the craft, it just took them 3 days to respond to me. So here I am not able to undo the mistake because they took too long to respond to my ticket.
I’ll probably get rid of these belts I’ve been hanging on to then. Sounds like the solution to this if anyone has this problem in the future is to immediately submit a ticket and pray that it takes less than 3 days for a Blizz rep to get back to you.
You can reopen the ticket and explain the situation and see if they will make a exception and whne i say reopen click the I still have a problem option.
I do want to clarify that the taking too long bit only tracks from the moment you do the action you want undone to the moment you submit a ticket for it. Any time after that is just waiting and isn’t taken into account.
If you do reopen it, I’d make a point of clarifying that in your response just to see if it helps in any way.
That makes sense to me. I sent in the ticket mere minutes after I performed the craft. The only part that took a long time was Blizzard responding to it.
I’m going to just chime in here because to be honest? This sounds like they maybe thought you crafted a single item to be undone. I know they’ve been kind enough to undo some crafted legendaries when the wrong one had been made (meaning the full-on legendary with the memory and all), but this would be the first time with them considering to de-craft a large quantity of the base items for any reason at all. Or at least the first time I have seen this sort of thing come through here.
It’s definitely not a mistake I intend to repeat. Though I did try to be as specific as possible in the ticket. I made no bones about what I had accidentally crafted.
Hopefully they’ll rule in your favor, but yah. I did just want to throw my two copper out there. I’ve leveled my LW through like a nut to provide my raid team with all the legendaries I could. I feel your pain when you think you’ve been doing one thing…only to realize it wasn’t the one you intended to do.
Blizz Support got back to me today and they did indeed refund the craft for me, they deleted the 15 mail belts from my inventory and sent me an in-game mail with all of the mats back. I do still have rank 2 for crafting mail belts however, even if I don’t see myself ever using that it’s probably good to be honest about it. They also explained why they thought I had waited too long and you were dead on the money. The original GM thought I was referring to crafting a completed legendary belt, not the base item. So when they looked back in my history and saw that I had not created any legendary items recently, they assumed that I had waited far too long.
They left off with a warning that I should endeavor to be more careful in the future which is a far less harsh way to say what I’ve been telling myself since this whole episode started. I honestly wasn’t expecting to be able to get the mats back and the only reason the first response frustrated me so much is because the reasoning they gave seemed inappropriate given the circumstances. So all in all Blizzard support did go above and beyond for me and I have to acknowledge that.
The length of time between responses was a bit ridiculous but given the current climate at Blizzard it’s understandable as I imagine they have their hands full with more important things than me crafting the wrong belt like a dumb-butt.
That’s pretty fair. TBH, this turned out well enough for a one-time-good-deal exception, but I sense you’ve learned your lesson about crafting mistakes.
