Click casting, which is now a built in feature but has been available since forever via clique and a few other addons, allows you to bind spells so that on click or button depress your spell is cast on the unit frame underneath, if you don’t have a unit frame underneath your cursor you cast your normal spellbinds.
The idea is basically to reduce binds by having your healing spells on the same keys as your damage spell, but the healing spells are click casted. The downside is that to cast a healing spell you must have your mouse on your unit frames basically all game and move it slightly out of the frames, tab and cast damaging spells.
It’s my belief that in high level arena, healers use targeting macros and then cast a healing spell from their action bars on their target. I don’t know of any streamers or high level healers that click cast.
The reason I am asking if its possible to be good with click casting is that click casting is what I use in raids and m+, and setting up an entirely different system for arena seems really difficult to manage. So far I have gotten to duelist click casting.
Im sure you can get to like 1800ish

I think that I knew a guy who clicked his frames and his abilities
He’d float around 2300-2600 depending on season
yah ive gotten 2.1k 3’s/RBG’s Click casting. It’s how i learned to heal and is great if u play around moving the mouse in and out of the addon bars.
To clarify Never Click target frame then click heal spell. That extra click puts u behind. I use Vuhdo and can hover a name then do a specific click for a specific heal.
It doesnt matter how you heal, aslong as you are able to heal efficiently and comfortably.
If you are confortable using clicking addons, keep doing it. The more confortable you are, the more attention you spend on situational awareness and less time looking at your bars.
Im a baddy 1800 pleb on multiple healers. I dont claim to know everything, but spending less time looking at bars and more time watching what your enemy is doing and more time working on your positioning will take you further than anything else.

Its something healers can get away with but it cripples you a bit since your reaction time is worse mechanically speaking.
I remember Athene getting carried to 2600 in 3s, with holy paladin, and just clicking entire time. All he did was wait or them to tell him to hoj. Season 1 tho, when there were so many people.
He’s the best paladin though; he doesn’t need to not click to win
I made it to almost 2100 in 2s doing this with vuhdo last season (playing resto shaman). You will be hard pressed to get any farther no matter how good you are. It limits your movement, reaction speed, and screen awareness.
I will say that it works amazing in BGs where there is a lot more players to track. It’s much harder to transition from pve to arena than to BGs.
Edit: there is a small advantage that the enemy doesn’t know who you are casting a heal at. But it’s really small. I think it’s one give away that you click-to-cast addon because most high rated arena healers will directly target who they are healing with keybinds instead of using @macros (takes too many keybinds).

an old man co-worker once told me “theres more than one way to skin a cat”
that phrase kinda stuck with me to think outside the box for solutions
im sure theres prob a few clickers out there who are higher rated/skilled than the “average non clicker”
i play with a mage who is a clicker and he does pretty good damage. but i personally think being a clicker while playing melee would seem way 2 hard
why do people make posts like this?
who cares how you heal as long as it’s working out for you
jahmili literally clicks frames for years and he was still the best mage in the game
stop being a sheep and just do what’s comfortable for you

I am a 100% clicker, but also not a hardcore pvp person either. I cant play key binds. Too much to remember
