Well, not necessarily. The outcome won’t exactly be simple to observe.
sometimes the mods do the right thing… sometimes
I dont think we’ve seen a situation like this arise yet on the forums as far as the new one goes. I wasn’t a huge active user of the old one so I can’t say if this problem occurred there as well but it’ll be interesting to see now that Blizz has seen this issue if they’ll make attempts to counter act such toxic behavior.
We have been told that the flags are for marking content we feel violates the CoC, and not to use it as an “dislike” button, and numbers of flags available per day is restricted, in order to discourage frivolous use.
Using the flag system to intentionally mute or hide posts is probably actionable as harassment, which is a broad term deliberately written so as to leave investigators strong case-by-case freedom of assessment.
I imagine that it is apparent to those viewing these forums with admin privileges when a poster is flagging things on alternate characters on the same account, and that while not specifically mentioned in to CoC, it would be frowned upon.
But ultimately, the moderators prefer not to take us by the hand and tell us what not to do. There will never be a comprehensive slate of thou-shalt-nots. They will simply rule as they feel appropriate.
Yes they do. The CMs and CS are aware of the situation.
As to the question the OP had, yes, people abusing the report system can face actions. They said as much on the OW forums after this software rollout there.
They cover it in two places - under Spamming/Trolling and in the general comments.
Abusing the Reported Post feature by sending false alarms or nonsensical messages
Note that the following guidelines are not exhaustive, and may not address all manner of offensive behavior. As such, the forum moderators shall have full discretion to address any behavior that they feel is inappropriate.
This is very reassuring to hear. Thank you, Mira.
Well hopefully they get the one month bannarino, I know people who have gotten it for much less…
I have no insight into what will be done, how fast, or any changes to the system. I just know they are aware! Sort of a “we will look into it” situation.
I do know they have the logs and can see exactly who posts, who reports, where they log in from, etc. etc. People can’t hide from the Admins.
I’m just happy the CMs are aware of this situation and I’ll chalk that up to a win in itself. Whatever they decide to do with the potential culprit is just a bonus.
Woah, we live again
Mostly because it’s a false report. It is mostly because the rules also state that the flag system is intended to be used as a report function, not a dislike feature.
Alot of people disregard that and report because they don’t like somthing.
Welcome back dear brother.

Good to know Mirasol, thank you a bunch. As to the topic at hand I really do hope that abusers are taken to action… and not this silly little stuff of a week or a couple of days either… In this thread alone is indicative of the abuse some individuals are willing to partake in…
The thread in which sparked the question in which started this entire thread, I believe the last 10-15 posts were all hidden due to the abuse of over flagging. Its a grievous misuse of the tool. Just again happy to see its acknowledge and will hopefully be looked into to avoid future mishaps with it.

This is where I’m at with it. I don’t care how it’s addressed, but if my own suspicions are accurate, I hope that it is in some way or another. What form that takes, I don’t particularly care.

Yes, I know which thread that was. It has been forwarded for review along with this one and another where a person was targeted that I know of.
I obviously can’t comment on any possible account actions other than to point at the CoC which covers false reports. Blizz does not like it when people waste the moderators time.
The other thing that hopefully will be evaluated, is the ability to post likes/flags from each alt as though they were separate. Those actions need to be account wide. They are on the other forums because we post with Battletags there.
It would be a shame if they had to take away individual char posting for WoW.

I really hope they don’t choose to do that here. I could understand if it becomes necessary, but… I don’t wanna.
Couldn’t they (and correct me if I’m wrong, I dont know much about coding and forums and what not) just give us a set number of likes/flags to have per account. Say we have 50 likes and 10 flags to use per Bnet account.
Could it be done so that the chracters on the account only have those 50 and 10 to play with? So if Character A: uses 10 likes and 2 flags, the account (regardless of character being posted on) only has 40 likes left and 8 flags?

In theory, sure – but it probably depends on what this new forum platform sees as an account. If it thinks a CHARACTER is an account, that’s probably how it already is.

Kinda hoping it’s permanent. We don’t need them coming back and taking vengeance yet again.
