While I see the thread about buying AOTC is getting a lot of attention, and yeah, I could see purchasing AOTC much earlier in the season being a pretty big thing.
But, I’m just a semi-casual player who picked up WoW a few months ago, and got AOTC pretty easily with a random PUG. People who are serious enough about the game to consider the idea of paying for achievements probably have way better odds than me.
This late into the season, I would guess the ratio of people who know the mechanics in Heroic Rasz are so high now, there’s very little need to buy the achievement.
…or, it seems doubtful, but maybe I just got lucky.

As someone who has gotten every AOTC achievement with his guild since the start of Legion…
I do think that Raz is one of the easier AOTC bosses we’ve had in recent memory. I haven’t checked the numbers yet to compare how many players have gotten AOTC this season compared to other seasons yet though. Generally speaking, AOTC even with a PuG requires you to be at least semi-competent depending on how many truly good players you have in the group.
It is pretty typical for a large surge of players to get AOTC towards the end of a season though. Blizzard tends to put their large boss nerfs in that timeframe and while we don’t have borrowed power anymore, raids are designed to get easier over time as the community gets access to better gear. The Onyx Annulet is probably the most direct example of this. Blizzard generally wants their player base to accomplish their own goals and steadily provides them more powerful tools to do that as the season draws to a close.
And people who buy achievements are and always have been clowns. As they say, a fool and his money are easily parted.

i dont really see why it needs to be hard at this point in time, the next patch and raid isnt that far off

meh, end of the season, lots of people at 410+ilvl, raz (and other bosses) have been nerfed to the ground.
Similar situation happens right before every major content patch, you might still be in the middle of your power progression, but I’d bet half your raid was waaaaay overgeared for heroic.

AoTC has never been anything more than a participation award anyway.

The forum makes it out like only people who are “elitist” and no-life the game can get aotc without buying it.
Like this guy the other day… check this out.
An fairly decent skilled player who is capable of watching a youtube video and listening to a raid lead can achieve aotc without buying it.

It’s a lot easier the closer you get to the end of the season.

The mechanics in Heroic Raza were never hard. It’s that it’s overtuned.
You basically have to be AT the gear level is drops to realistically meet it’s DPS/HPS checkpoints. Beating the boss should reward me with phat loot, not the same stuff I’m wearing.
Pretty much everyone I know (and most of the outspoken people around here) all beat Raza by overgearing it. They face-rolled M+, used that gear to beat an overtuned boss, and then mocked anyone else that didn’t do the same. lame
So yes-- AOTC should be really easy at this point, because you’ve had all season to gear up in M+ … and then use that gear to beat a boss whose major mechanic in Ph1 is to dodge a beam … RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. Raza is just overtuned to sell people on M+. lame

AOTC has never been hard past the first month or two, and most of that is just trying to find a group that isn’t 90% lobotomites.
The guy you quoted there doesn’t even own DF, I’m pretty sure. He doesn’t even have the dragonriding mounts in his mount collection. He didn’t own SL while it was current either. Spent the entire expansion complaining about end-game systems and other players though. And is doing the same thing now, it’s really weird.

Not to mention jumping around on a handful of different forum alts. He’s something else.

As someone who has gotten every AOTC achievement with his guild since AOTC was put in the game, and killed every end of raid boss since vanilla before aotc was a thing(same guild since 2004) - Raz was definitely NOT one of the easier AOTC bosses in recent memory.
Sure, after all the mega nerfs she is NOW, but until the most recent round of mega nerfs she was one of the more difficult end bosses. Not the worst, but right up there.

Wow… this is a great point!
I am deeply disappointed by the gear level that drops in Heroic VOTI. Given that it requires so much more coordination than a +17 Mythic Plus, Heroic Raids should be giving iLvl closer to 411 imo.

For example I just got AotC this Tuesday, without buying it.

I dunno. When I think of difficult AOTC bosses I’m usually thinking of bosses like Deny and Sylvanas. I think both were harder than Razageth.
Perhaps it was just something unusual with my group, but it never felt like we were spinning our wheels without moving on Razageth. We never spent weeks of raid nights wiping to the same part of the fight over and over. On Razageth, we would progress a little further every week and consistently return to that part of the fight next attempt until eventually there was no more fight left to progress to. On Sylvanas progress felt a lot more draining.

Guild I am in is still not AOTC
We haven’t even been to the double big add phase yet.
If it’s any consolation, I think phase 2 is the most difficult part of the fight. Once you’re able to consistently get to the second intermission without spending many brezes, victory is very near.

We’re hitting DPS checks. We have some DPS doing under 25k at 398-400ilvl. Sure other DPS can do like 80k DPS but it’s really rough.
