You didn’t really have to be in the guild in vanilla classic in order to progress, there were alot of PuGS and Rank 14 was possible to get without being in a group.
I feel like TBC will seperate the Men(Women) from the boys(girls). Raids and Heroics are harder, PvP will take more skill thanks to Resil and Arena. The overall atmosphere just seems more competitive comapared to vanilla classic, thoughts?
It’s possible to be a casual, TBC definitely started the competitive nature of WoW and took it out of the casual realm.
Arena is where people started looking at people individually instead of collectively as a faction for PvP. I believe this lack of casual-ness for PvP turned things toxic.
PvE raids started having mechanics that more often created a problem for the whole raid if you individually messed up. This turned raids less casual.
It’s definitely less casual and more toxic for sure, but you can still exist in the game casually. The entire concept of performing the best and competing at the top is not a casual concept in the first place. If you are aiming for these goals, you are not playing casually in the first place.
TLDR - Yes its possible to progress everywhere casually. If you are looking to be the best or almost the best somewhere, you aren’t playing casually.
So there seems to be a hidden definition to your concept of a casual player. Summarized, this: “Gimme easy stuff bro! Lemme just wander about, doing whatever I want, and gimme stuff for ma character!”
I’m sorry, why is casual viewed through this lens? To be honest, I’m casual and it’s because I like the leveling experience in Classic (and soon in TBC). I can go back to retail if I want the 1000 hoops to jump through. In other words, this is my new casual playground, and I’m fine with that. I don’t need to min/max my character in order to feel I’ve accomplished something. Heck, been there done that the first time around with TBC and every expansion that followed. So I really am done with that and can now just let myself enjoy the world, the leveling, etc. in a casual way.
What entitlement. Playing the game casually, not expecting rewards for playing casually, other than the reward of just enjoying the world, the leveling experience, etc., is somehow entitled?
You definitely want to join a guild, and if you want to progress in raids its got to be a guild with people who carry their own weight.
If you know the fights and are willing to explain to people you should definitely try being a guild master / raid leader. It can be tedious when you have to recruit people but the feeling of progression is a rewarding and very satisfying thing.
