Just really struggling to see how Holy is a playable M+ class for challenging content. I see people doing it, but having to 2 heal CoT seems like a weird way to balance AoE healing for Holy. Did they just forget about this spec entirely?
I wish I could come to the forums for ONE day and not see some type of phrase like this.
Its beyond annoying now.
NO the spec isnt dead, dying, scuffed, ignored, forgotten, neglected, or whichever other synonym is your flavor of the day and the same is true of disc and shadow.
Stop.
It wasn’t cute today, last week, last month, last year, last expansion, the 3 before that, or ever,
You’re 1700 rated and are complaining about Holy… Also, you need to realize that the 4 set bonus for holy is actually insane. Once we get that, it will be incredibly easier on the spec. Holy is fine, cycle your cooldowns better.
Unfortunately it lacks greatly in the AoE department. It’s fine up to a certain key level then falls apart because there’s only so many Heals and Flash Heals you can fit into the narrow windows of damage that can occur and delete your party. You can take it further if you’re in discord playing defensive tetris… Or you could just play Preservation Evoker, Resto Shaman, Monk or most other specs and not have to do that.
Holy is capable as any healer to keep people alive. As you get into higher keys there is more emphasis put on the party’s use of personal defensives.
Smart use of personals, interrupts and avoiding mechanics contribute much more to the groups success than raw output from you.
The only place where holy lacks right now is in a cleanse that targets poisons. A bit of a bummer, but not insurmountable.
wut
You literally have Archon Halo and Premonition of Piety (which is overpowered if anything). With Piety you GS + spam heals on yourself and you instantly burst heal the group from 20% to 100% in a couple of casts.
Also you have Divine Word, Shadow Fiend w/ Essence Devourer, Apotheosis, and Divine Hymn. There’s 4-5 healing cds you can rotate for AOE damage.
When I last played Holy in DF S1/S2 you just had Flash Heal and a dream.
+10s are the upper limit on keys atm and they’re do-able as Holy.
Do you find it a hard switch to cast GS on yourself for piety when usually it went to the tank? I am finding tanks almost needing it more in the keys I have been in. Makes it a difficult call to use it on myself for this flavor of aoe healing.
Honestly kind of stinks to use our external for healing. Kind of like using our fade for the vine affix when you really want to use it as a DR. I am probably being a whiny face though and just need to get better though lol.
As you learn the dungeons, you’ll learn where you need AoE healing vs tank healing.
GSing yourself does not mean you have to save it for yourself only. It just means knowing when you’ll need it for your piety cleave. (And TBH, Piety’s pretty strong regardless of GS, so it’s OK to use it without GS if the AoE you need isn’t MASSIVE)
I mean, it used to be the most popular healing spec. That honor has since gone to shamans and paladins and the other healing specs are pretty close.
Disc fell off a cliff after they started designing it for mythic raiders, and really if anything it’s gotten worse over time. Disc is approaching monk (at its worst) levels of irrelevance in a lot of content. Saying priest has problems isn’t some hysterical hyperbole - the class has eroded since Shadowlands pretty enormously.
The whole “viability” question is kind of dumb, because healers can be carried like any other role for most levels of content. But is holy meta or even top-tier in the hands of most players/groups? No. No it isn’t. And pretending it’s just fine because it can pump (often HAS to pump) more HPS because it lacks a lot of CC/mitigation tools and QoL is just as misguided as proclaiming it “dead.”
This is possibly the most worthless statistic when analyzing this game. I see it get brought up from time to time, and quite honestly if you’re looking at rIO/WCL data this changes every single season. And it’s completely different between difficulties. rIO HEAVILY skews towards that season’s meta.
Right now Shaman/Pally are insanely popular in M+ as healer choice. They’re amazing pug healers, and shaman in particular both has every tool you might ever need (including dispels for like every dangerous mechanic) with interrupts on top of being really easy to play.
But your data isn’t even fully accurate. Outside Mythic raid data, Holy priest is third in popularity still. That’s more popular than they were at Amirdrassil’s launch. Hpriest only got popular to play in the 10.2.5 patch.
Druid has been the most popular too when going off key data over several different expansions. They also have been top 2 for popularity all of DF in raid - and they’ve fallen off a cliff without major changes to playstyle.
Heck holy priest plays the same as it did last expansion when they were incredibly popular they just get a super powered button now - but we’re claiming that somehow they’re dead and broken?
And in discussion of meta, especially in M+? Man there’s only ever a max 2 “viable” healers when it comes to top player groups. The #7 healer in the world in M+ is a Holy priest right now.
Yes, Holy priest has problems slotting into pug group comps. Yes, it could use some things to help it in the pug world. I’d even go as far as to say if they won’t give us interrupt back we should get an omni dispel or SOMETHING in its place. But no, it’s not dead or even dying.
Well, holy was dying throughout DF because it was almost always in or near last place even in raw HPS, to say nothing of utility, 10.2.5 is the first patch they gave them some TLC in the form of surprisingly strong DPS.
I’m not sure what you’re trying to say, you know the spec has lost popularity since at least 9.0, yes they got a bump in late DF (they’d previously gotten a brief bump in late SL due to some buffs too that proved transitory), and they’re on a sharp decline again. So is disc. How is that irrelevant if players are fleeing the class?
I wouldn’t call the third most popular spec in raid “on a sharp decline”
The only place they’re unpopular is mythic.
Plenty of specs are unpopular in cutting edge content. We’re on the week of the race. That’s what I’m saying.
Raider IO’s data pretty much always skews towards the “god comp” meta specs each season. And there’s nothing concerning about popularity in raid for Holy ATM. But even if we were to try and use this IO popularity as a measuring stick, Holy is one of the last classes that looks concerning at all. If anything going strictly by popularity Disc has needed it for several years (and I really still don’t think it does)
Keys are actually very easy all things considered. Were able to do +10s on week 1 literally in iLvl 610.
639 is Mythic iLvl. You can completely face roll a +10 at that level like its a +5.
Despite the few trolls. I actually got a couple of notes to go back and read through from a lot of your responses. I appreciate those that took the time to type some real information up.
Go run something higher than a +4 then come back. - Healing in general, especially on HPriest is incredibly un-fun.
Congratz, you run with Mythic raiders and people who’ve already cleared heroic. “The Top 2% of players”
You’re dreaming if you think the people I raid with are great at M+. lol
I reroll and push my +9 to a +10 (or reroll my +10) just to give my guildies no leaver keys for vault since I timed 6 out of 8 already on +10.
I time +10s with pugs and people on my friends list who I played with previous seasons at high key levels. Some of the groups I’ve played with are nutty: 0 deaths the entire key.
Consider the following; You might just not like Holy, actually. It’s okay, there are six other healers you can potentially enjoy.
Do those people your run with mythic raid though?
It looks like the person you are responding to is in a grumpy mood and being borederline rude but I think that they have a valid point to your point that 10s were relatively easy. Easy (and doable) for maybe a small percentage I think.
But that is ok! You and the people you run with focused on a goal and achieved it. Congrats!!! (sincerely). 10s kicked my booty. Tried 3, only completed 1. Kind of not wanting to try again for a while so my brain can heal lol.
In lower keys, the ones I am better suited for, holy feels ok imo. I am having fun as archon.
I can’t speak for everyone I play with. Some are M+ only players and some Mythic raid.
The key scaling from a 9 to 10 goes from 113% to IIRC 139% and then you get Fortified so that’s another +25% monster health/damage to boot. It’s like jumping up +3 key levels instead of +1 from +9 to +10.
The timers seem tuned around +10s because you can easily ++ a lot of these dungeons +9s, but on a +10 you might only have 1-3 minutes left at the end of the dungeon. Just getting 5-6 deaths can brick some of these keys. +11s are do-able atm as well, but +12s are really out of reach for most until we get more gear.
It’s all relative to gear though. Doing +10s at 610 is just like doing +12s in 630+ iLvl gear.
Title keys this season are probably going to be +14-15s imho.
