I know this because my Rogue alt has been in Org for 3 months. Doing exactly what you think.
See i dont understand something. When people lie like you just did… do you just expect people to take it at face value immediately? Do you expect the people who know what youre saying is untrue to just… not call you on it? Do you think if you lie big enough, long enough, Blizzard will think its true and give you everything you want?
I legitimately want to know what the motivation is behind such brazen falsehoods.
My R14 grind sucked back then.
45 min WSG/AB queues, and 1 hour 30 min queues for AV on Horde-Fairbanks.
On average 1 million caps for B1, and there were always breakers. ALWAYS. Highest I remember was 1.3 million.
But I solo queued up til R13. Used to queue in Thunderbluff, race to DM and camp the entrance for honor in between queues. Spent an unhealthy amount of time to get R14 on my rogue.
Yeah… I know some servers had it rough. Good job for getting through it on your rogue.
Someone in AV inspected my original Mootwo and started asking me about the server because our horde cap for B1 in March 2020 was like 700k (as horde we did have the queues you described) and that was much better than his FFA server where people were pushing 1.3mil just like you said here. He was happy with my answer about how things were done on Earthfury, transferred, got his R14, and became really active on the server Discord and in the server community so it was a win for all.
Conversely, I know someone who transferred off Earthfury to Anathema for things to “be easier” and then got into some huge battle with the people there, and the top caps got pushed to over a million… and this was a server with like 500 raiders per side. Also, on an unrelated note, this person was weird the whole time, started talking to me out of the blue in the first place (I still wonder where he came from), didn’t get along with anyone who I played with, and gave off the creepiest vibe. So yeah he rubbed me the wrong way but the memorable part is he ended up trying to meet in RL at one point, he was local so he would talk about stuff around here, and the wanting to meet was not in a “let’s get beers” sort of way that I’ve done with other local players that I’ve gotten to know but in a creepy stalker sort of way. So that’s when I blocked him everywhere.
Yet many people still do it. I’d love to be Immortal in Valiant and be mega cool but I don’t have the time to practice.
System is fine, if not too easy. Horde are capping in two days. Alliance are done by Friday.
Ranking is a choice, not a necessity, and if people don’t like the grind maybe they should reconsider the reasons why they’re doing it.
It’s still really difficult for the average player to imagine reaching rank 14.
They effectively removed the degenerate aspects of the ranking system, and tweaked the rank point system but the net result is still an inordinate amount of PvP that requires a mostly terminally online amount of queueing. I’d argue 40-50 hours worth per week at a minimum assuming w:l is 50/50.
That is simply not “easy for anyone to get” unless your standard of comparison is some sort of 24/7 logged in NEET as the basis.
I think the changes in general are good, but there’s two things that they definitely need to adjust:
WSG and AB are effectively dead outside of their weekends and even then the queues still lean towards AV popping first due to the sheer amount of participants who ignore WSG/AB. It would be cope to say that either BG is active even during their weekend. HPH in these BGs needs to be raised to be equitable, to allow folks to “pick their poison” when PvPing. Additionally, getting exalted with either faction is effectively near-impossible in the current state of things, as a result.
Progress should scale consistently on a curve of honor you gained. Instead they went for these janky “thresholds” which means, depending on your rank, if you go past 337,500 honor, you better be going all the way to 500,000 otherwise all honor you gain between 337,500 and 500,000 is effectively wasted effort. This doesn’t make that much sense to me.
That all being said, reaching r14 post change is, by any rational measure, still not feasible for a casual.
This is because people never want to deal with another premade ever again. If the price for never dealing with another premade ever again is never queueing AB/WSG ever again… well look at the queues.
Also, AV was dead outside its weekends for nearly 3 years. None of you wanted to do anything about that. Because you benefited from it.
And most the premades that would run on era now would likely be pretty bad and easily shut down by a few gamers lol
A lot of people ranking are not really for PVP at all, they’re ranking to get gear for PVE. Hence popularity of AV with all the fury warriors lol
It is basically what happened in the game in the pre-TBC patch in '06. Just a worse version of it because there aren’t as many people and it didn’t take 8 weeks for people to grind out their gear.
Grinding BGs becomes the new way for a fresh 60 to get geared and because they don’t really enjoy PVP that much the default is AV where you get a lot of honor regardless of the outcome. It is likely better honor per hour to lose games in AV all day long than to get a 50/50 win rate in WSG.
The way queues work if there were people who actually wanted to play choosing AB and WSG there would be games. So if there are no games going that means out of every server in Classic Era combined there aren’t enough 60s who want to do WSG or AB for a game to pop.
BG participation in general is really poor on Era. First time in my history of playing WoW that there are no games at all for lower levels. Vanilla was not like this, no version of the live game has been that way that I have played. Even at level 60 I have never heard of a certain BG only going on the honor weekend for it. Blizzard can’t do anything about people not joining queues except put in more carrots to get people to click a button.
hopefully more people try ab and wsg once they do av grind since they wont hve to get 1 shot in their blues by r14s every game once everyone is on a more even playing field.
theres been some good wsg games the past few days with ppl practicing for their tourny
i do miss ppl dueling outside sw while they wait for qs in vanilla instead of afk at battlemaster. classic definately seems more pve focused…lots of good world pvp though
Only way this happens is Premades are forced into their own queues permanently and any attempt to circumvent this is met with downright draconian punishments. Im talking 6 months first offense, perma 2nd. And attempting to Premade AV is met with the same.
Anything less and the majority of people are content to never touch anything but AV again.
