Is ff14's trial worth it?

Lalafell throws you off more then a gnome?

Yes, because gnomes are very common in fantasy and do not really like child-like…

There is a ton of stuff to do without paying for expansions. I’d just do a bit of research to see if it’s something you could enjoy. If the aesthetic isn’t off-putting, you like typical MMORPG content, enjoy a story-driven experience, you’ll probably like it. If you’re deadset on PvP, probably not.

Lalafell is literally a halfing/hobbit, the males have facial hair.

The trial exists to tell you if it’s worth it. That’s kind of the point lol. Just create an account and play. There’s honestly no reason to even purchase the game until you’ve completed the entire story line included with the free trial, which is well over 50 hours for most people.

Lots of Youtube videos exist that could help you figure this out as well.

And yet still have very childish appearances

it’s not a dealbreaker it just kinda throws me off

Great game, it’s free and unlimited. Give it a shot

It’s possible you may find ARR/base game kind of lame or slow, I sure did, but it’s worth pushing through to the first expansion. It gets MUCH better.

I tried… and quit FFXIV twice because of the initial start of the game, but I am glad I finally listened to all those who promised it would get better if I just stuck with it until the expansions started. I’m only two expansions in so far and I’m having a great time

Yes, it’s a really good game. It’s not WoW, and if you’re expecting a WoW clone then it’s probably not what you’re looking for. The style is very “anime-ish” (for lack of a better word), and it took me a little bit to get used to it. Nothing wrong with it, it was just a bit jarring for me at first.

Arh, disliking the lalafel. You fit right in with the FFXIV community.

Idk, hobbit, gnome, small elf races even if they look youthful never made me think of human children. Just ancient mystical races.

Might just be a personal thing that you can’t help but think of that. :man_shrugging:t3:

It’s just an opinion, I’ve never fount any other fantasy race to look weird or childish but they really throw me off.

oof look at that GCD. YUCK. Thanks for giving some concrete information to support my post that FFXIV competitive scene sucks

I will say tho, the combat improves a ton for most classes at:
lv 18
lv 30
lv 50-70

The GCD doesn’t work like it does in WoW.
75% on my inputs as a ninja don’t trigger the GCD.
Imagine if almost none of your inputs had a GCD. That’s FF14 for half the classes.

There is a lot to like about FFXIV. But overall I think it’s just not my kind of “feel” in a game. Saying that I always played it on the PS4. However It was recently on sale so I bought it on the PS5 and PC. Night and day from the PS4 frame rate and resolution. I will give it another try.

You are correct, it does. Same goes for WoW too. But you can at least get a little taste.

Meanwhile we top FFXIV players are saying yuck to WoWs GCD, because every single ability is on the GCD which results in a slower flow of abilities and it is just not aethestically pleasing.

FFXIV is one of the least immersive mmos out there. Soooo many loading screens breaking immersion. Imagine never being able to go across zones without a loading screen. So like going from Goldshire to hitting a loading screen on your way to Westfall. Or coming from Goldshire you take the road to SW and right as you hit the gates you hit a loading screen and get plopped in the middle of the Trade District. You never get to walk over the bridge and jump off in the water if you want etc. That is what FFXIV with their hubs.

Also the game is like on rails with small zones and tons of invisible walls. You can’t even drop down little cliffs. WoW is very open world and if you want to jump off clifffs like some do to get in Ungoro crater you can. FFXIV nope.

I am playing the beta and it is kind of a different mmo. I don’t see it giving any mmo a run for their money though except maybe dead mmos like Tera or Aion. I only am at lvl 10 and haven’t done any dungeons yet etc. but I can see myself playing very casual for fun and just get to max level and then likely calling it quits. But just from my experience so far is okay I guess. I feel I will get my $40 worth overall but wouldn’t recommend others paying for it if it is a little pricey and maybe wait to see if they do a trial version.

It’s not an e-sport, and the “competitive scene” has no impact on whether it’s a good game or not.
