I heard the “Harp” combat spec was really good back in tbc but I guess they nerfed it by not allowing Preparation to reset the cool down of adrenaline rush. Are there any other ways to make combat viable in pvp or is sub the only good pvp spec in tbc?
Harp meaning: Hemorrhage, Adrenaline rush, Preparation.
It really only matters on what your goals are for pvp and how you want this to be viable.
For example, are you just looking to do bgs? Then harp spec is fine. Are you looking to push high ratings in arena? Then harp probably is never going to be the answer.
I’m gonna do arena for the gear but I won’t push that high. I enjoy bgs and world pvp way more.
If your goal is just mostly around bgs and world pvp then it’s fine. What nerfed it so hard was that in organized arenas you could just use AR back to back and have a HUGE burst of damage for basically 30 seconds while keeping someone completely locked down. It is basically a healer killer spec.
If you are just going to be doing bgs, you won’t really NEED to use AR back to back that often because of the disorganization in general.
Sub is still always going to be the ‘better’ spec because of things shadow step to keep you on targets. But in bgs it really won’t matter too much.

AR/Prep Mace Spec was THE rogue PvP spec in the beginning of TBC. Ming really popularized it but Buddhist did too (taking you back?). You could Adrenaline Rush and then just prep and do it again and the mace stun procs were brutal. With slice and dice and AR up you have a 1.6sec attack speed with those gladiator maces and the stun procs had NO DIMINISHING RETURNS. It was just a lawn mower.
We’re playing TBC on 2.4.3 however, so the meme is dead. Combat Maces will still absolutely be fine for mid-range arena, world PvP and BGs. It is technically the highest PvP DPS you’re going to be doing, your stun procs are still outrageous and off DR and Blade Flurry can actually be disgusting if you play a team that is sitting on each other. But yeah, Hemo is the meta for the high ratings for the tools / utility / combo point generation.
Shadowstep is a complete game changer.
