Is calling players out for low DPS considered harassment?

No, its not harassment.

But why am I not surprised OP posted yet another love letter to FF?

It is. It also have a far more hardcore endgame which you never participated in too and thats fine. But I dont find it hilarious at all as it stands endgame in FFXIV is a huge loss of money barely matters if they cater to hardcore or not, game get boring too quickly due lack of content and combat is too slow.

This is simply false; the conclusion in no way follows from the premise.

In your raid, you can keep all of the low DPS that you want; there’s no reason to argue about it here.

If you say so, but I’ve done endgame for both and only mythic is harder than FFXIV.
But since the majority of WoW players don’t do mythic, not really a good meter lol

There are definitely ways to let people know they’re doing low DPS that would be considered as harassment. I personally approach this kind of problem in a reasonable manner rather than a judgmental or condescending way - even if the person in question is being rude or whatever.

Funny thing i played that game and the community which have everything to be friendly is just as min maxing as wow classic is(which is pointless but people go all in for that. Which is my argument) And pretty unfriendly the second you disagree with them.

I think damage meters etc are a very important tool. Not for people to bash each others but for players to learn to play their class. How fun is it to go through combat logs and create your own parser for it. No thanks.

To answer the question: No, I don’t consider it harassment in the slightest.

Also holy hell the stuff being flagged in this thread is ridiculous, but I guess making good points hurts folks feelings these days. So sad.

Context is everything here

If you’re pushing for progression and a player or players are performing less than optimally to the point it’s damaging the group, the raid/group lead will need to pull them aside and say, “Hey, what’s going on with your DPS, it ain’t great, is there something going on with your rotation or something” in whispers or some other method

Done entirely to try to help the player improve so they can kill bosses and get loot, not being a jerk about it, that’s absolutely not harassment

Now say you’re doing a low level dungeon where it’s hard to lose even if you try, and an obviously new player (no heirlooms, odd talent choices, weird rotation) is naturally not doing the best, we’re not hitting any snags in the dungeon, we’re going through it just fine, and someone just decides to pop up and say in the group chat:

“LOLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, HUNTER NO KNOW BUTTON ROTATION, LMAOOOOOOOO, WHY YOU PLAY GAME QUIT PLS”

Obviously the example used is hyperbolic but I’ve seen people just be flat out nasty over the tiniest mistakes where it can quickly spiral down into harassment in a proper hurry, let alone if they’re not doing what someone deems the ‘optimal’ level of DPS

That’s harassment 100%, no question, people gotta learn somehow and ranting and raving at them while the run itself is going perfectly fine is not the way to do it

Certainly not harassment in and of itself, but when used as a platform to insult and belittle another player, it can be classified as such

PvP is also better in wow and mythic dgs are also better even if not m+. Their endgame is really lacking and they dont improve it. And LFR and reg mythic isnt endgame.

Which is how people got banned in FFXIV and would get banned here also

Yeah PvP is better here but PvP isn’t a focus in ff.
Their endgame is fine as it is as most people don’t push the highest levels in any mmo.
Faulting a game for not having good PvP when that’s never been a focus of the game is kind of dumb lol

Eh, as someone who has completed both savage raids and mythic raids, I can say that I found mythic raids to be harder. Harder is subjective though, so your experience may vary. Personally I found FFXIV content to be really scripted. I felt like once I got the “dance” down, and we met the dps checks it was ezpz. Yes, mythic raids have dances and patterns too, but they feel more dynamic to me, plus you have a lot more people to coordinate (20 vs 8). I did like that boss abilities telegraphed so I could see exactly where an ability is going to hit vs. guessing based on where the boss is facing.

I healed in both games, and doing dps didn’t bother me since I’m always doing dps while healing (ABC - always be casting). There were things I liked better about FFXIV (mostly with transmog, the game engine, the amazing story (MSQ), crafting, and housing), but I prefer raiding in WoW by a mile. I really missed not having addons in FFXIV, and I’m not a fan of mouseover macros to heal.

I also think it’s very important to have access to logs of your performance if only so you can analyze what you’re doing wrong and what you can improve upon. I’m not an advocate of shaming people over their performance though.

There are the unnecessary moments (normal/heroic) dungeons. As opposed to raid progression.

Overall it does create a more toxic environment, the more power you give to players, the more will find it gives them that extra reason to behave like a douche.

Yes entirely.

Both games have that dance, even mythic.
And I’m referring to specific savage fights not the whole raid.
Savage Alexander for instance is a lot harder than a lot of our mythic fights here.
Less people for me is better, more efficiency. People in WoW have always believed that more people = harder content but really more people means having to bother with more people, more coordination and more chances to hide bads.
Overall yeah, mythic as a whole is higher than savage, but is pushed by such a small pop in this game it’s almost negligible.

Also, really love your perspective on both games and how you keep it to your perspective and not bashing.

Because Savage is FFXIV’s heroic raid, their Mythic raid is called Ultimate, 15-20 minutes fight where you fight multiple boss at once.

Forgot all about ultimates actually lol

It really depends on how this is handled.

If the Raid is sputtering out on a boss because you can’t clear a phase/control trash in a timely fashion then it’s almost assuredly a DPS issue and something the Raid lead needs to address. The best way to do this, is to look at the bottom rung of the DPS specs, compare them to what is considered Par for the raid and then politely inform them that it’s time to go, offering to work with guild members to get their numbers up.

Similarly, it’s on DPS to be honest with the raid about there abilities; if you’re low and don’t know how to get it up then the honorable thing to do is drop group.
