Is calling players out for low DPS considered harassment?

i wouldn’t worry about it too much.

…they’re about to get hit by the karma train

Depends what is said, how it is said, why it was said.
Either way “calling out” per se is different to quitely addressing something.

The difference between WoW and FF systems as far as I’m led to believe (haven’t got practical FF experience) is that specs aren’t created equally in terms of dps.
Similar to more classic WoW /TBC design of classes, in FF I hear that it is perfectly reasonable to have a support or utility class that provides functions that a normal dps wouldn’t be able to.

When classes aren’t balanced around dps it would certainly be inappropriate to call them out on it

Addons drive an efficiency in play that the Devs like to design around.

It’s far easier to design a “cool” (from the devs perspective) fight when you don’t have to worry about everything being telegraphed because the assumption is everyone is running DBM or a similar addon.

That and the higher up you go in difficulty, the more demand for healer DPS there is.

Based on old interviews, that’s not actually the case.

I’m awful dps myself. I take dps cuts to heal myself, I run across the room to soak for others, I focus on what I have to kick, I’m skiddish and tend to run around goop, and I make sure the tank has the mob before I start. I Also like talents that simplify my play style so they correlate with my pre-existing mustle memory so I can react faster. I usually live to the end on most bad pulls and get yelled at for being a drag on the group’s dps.

I am bad DPS and I’ve heard it, I tend to focus on over gearing to compensate and that just makes my parses grey even though I sit in middle pack on most fights.

I take it all in stride however. Because in hard solo challenges I tend to leave all the haters in the dirt. :stuck_out_tongue:

It depends on how you call them out. If you’re screeching at them like one of the Battleground gods on Alliance, it could be considered harassment.

Some people do better after being called out. Some people retreat into themselves. If you’re going to call someone out for their dps, do it the right way, and help them out. Don’t just yell at them.

“low” dps doesn’t always equate to poor game-play.

…but people who are obsessed with meters (and yet have no idea how they work) don’t understand this.

What’s worse, kicking someone cause their dps is low or informing them their dps is low and give them a chance to fix it or explain why before the kick?

If it was me with the low dps I know which I’d prefer.

Depends on the talents, but I feel you. I have carpel from years of gaming/job, so my hands/fingers don’t move near as fast some people, which is why I avoid raiding for the most part. Nothing more annoying than your hand going numb mid-fight.

If you’re in an M+ run, there’s no point in mentioning it because it’s too late—you’re already committed to the run with that group of people.

If it’s a PUG raid, just make expectations known: “we’re going to drop sub-20k DPS after this boss.” There’s no need to say more than that.

If it’s a guild raid, stop being a jerk and instead focus on helping the player raise DPS and having fun.

There’s a way to be a person, and it’s not that hard.

Praise publicly. Punish/Criticize/Correct privately.

If you chastise a person in front of a group, you are intentionally humiliating that person and its toxic. Doesn’t matter if you are pointing out facts or not, the reality is that you’re destroying a person.

A dps meter is like this: “Guns don’t kill people. People kill people.” If used improperly a dps meter can enable toxicity but its still a person who makes a choice to be toxic or not. Its also a tool that is incredibly beneficial when used properly. On many occasions I’ve used a dps meter to improve my rotation and also really explore how my skills and abilities really work. That would not have been possible without a dps meter.

I’ve played games that didn’t support dps meters and improving my own skills and rotation became exceedingly difficult. Ultimately, I don’t know if certain changes I made were beneficial since I have no way of measuring and comparing changes.

We don’t care about other games…
You should advertise your dead game elsewhere, thank you.

But…it’s the WoW forums. The perfect place to advertise WoW.

I think the difficulty of the content matters. If you’re in M+ or raiding I don’t see a problem of keeping track of DPS numbers or calling out poor performers.

But if someone is calling out players in normal or heroic dungeons, I think that’s a bit too much.

Yes. But OP use his post to advertise other game. He could have made his point without name dropping anything. Who care what other company DEV are saying…

Yeah, as a comparison to WoW. You know, considering each game has a different take on addons.

and this is probably why so many pugs fail.

i’d prefer to kick people who are ignoring mechanics and/or putting additional stress on healers.

Depends how it’s done. If someone is holding back the group, they should probably know about it.
