The last couple xpacs from what I recall, tanks (as well as most specs) tend to round robin on what is best/worst. Like now dh/guardian aren’t the greatest for m plus, however make tanks in rbgs.
I agree with you that the only true way to stay ahead of the curve now is to gear alts, so you are always ahead of “tuning.”
we are absolutely not bad. blood is simply a different tanking paradigm than other classes. people complaining about death strike not “hitting as hard” are forgetting the job of a tank. we are not the DPS. if the tank is doing the group’s DPS, the DPS are not doing -their- jobs. death strike isn’t for damage, it’s for our reactive mitigation. you get hit, you death strike, you heal and gain a shield.
we have different utility abilities than other tanks. fights we find easy, other tanks may struggle, and vice versa. don’t worry about the team composition of world first guilds. if you’re pushing for that kind of content, you wouldn’t be asking opinions you’d be looking at math. we’re absolutely capable of doing the job at every level of content difficulty.
Not to hijack a dk thread, but you’re correct. The only thing about what you said that I question is the word “can’t.” I’m at the point where I think it’s far less “can’t” and much more “don’t give a sh*t about.”
I rolled a blood dk one night when I was bored and I was suprised by how much fun it was to play. Before I knew it I was halfway through Hellfire Peninsula pulling large pack of mobs and killing them all. It made questing quick and fun.
If you enjoy playing a class and spec then just play it. Personally I’ll always play my blood DK no matter where it ranks on some list.
For half a mind I thought rotating classes and specs was what you should do.
Of course I’ve changed my mind on that. Play what you like and just pay gold for a M+ run if you really want it. This is Blizzard’s fault for making classes what they’ve become. No reason you should adjust for it.
Love watching those videos. I just wish I could buffer the beginning of pulls like that while still being able to have plenty of resources for further into the fight. Granted I really need to find some consistent DPSers to rotate CC with early on and such.
A group using all of its utility can make up for 99% of a specs shortcomings. If you can bridge the hardest part of a pull for spec X through some utility brought by spec Y then you gain all the advantages of spec X minus the weaknesses.
Problem with the game currently imo is that some specs dont have any real weaknesses… outlaw, rdruid, brewmaster, prot war, havoc.
They’re garbage tank spec in M+, or at least in the current patch. I mean, there are still some people success with this spec, since they bring a few quite interesting utilities. But overall, they’re just meh.
If you have all 6 tanks in front of you, DK’s would be amongst the first 4 to pick.
So, not sure why you guys feel it is garbage.
Their mechanic for being a tank allows them to do things many other tanks cannot, such as dealing with DoTs that normally may kill another tank or force them to use a cooldown, a DK wouldn’t worry about.
Their ability to use AMS to negate several mechanics along with icebound fortitude.
Used correctly, they’re good tanks.
I definately agree its not the class its the tools and the players ability to use them. DK and DH both have this issue where they have some of the most powerful abilities in the game… if used right they can handle tricky things for the meta tanks like its nothing… if handled wrong they just look like a dps minus the damage.
They’re the second-to-worst spec in M+, only behind bears. The blood dk era is over, go with it. Every tank spec can time 24 if you playing it correctly. Have you notice how hard it can be done with a blood dk or a bear tank? And for your question then no, i don’t have it.
I do wish blood did more dps. My bear (426) ends most dungeons 10k dps overall from blood (435). Its hp is less spiky but it needs to watched over by the healers much more closely.
I love the DK though and am mad I waited so long to level it this expansion. The legion class hall was the absolute bombdotcom. I honestly think class halls existed because of DK priest and paladin. The others were simply added in because it wouldnt be fair to give it to only 3 classes. And of those 3 I vastly preffered DK over the other 2. Now it looks like what we did in legion will be playing an actual role.
But back to the spec. 61% damage reduction from armor with boneshield is disgusting. And only having 25% avoidance is even worse. We get hit super often and take big damage when those hits land. Luckily the more damage we take the more healing we do but even at 25% unbuffed haste I just dont feel like I have enough deathstrikes in the tank to be selfsufficient.
Things are getting muxh easier every day I put into it though. Learning how to space out your DS usage so that your healer feels they are putting more consistent and smooth healing into you helps a ton. Dont blow your load all at once and the spec starts to feel infinately better.
Why do so many people choose to play other specs? Maybe it has to do with not needing to throttle your highest dps ability for fear that you may need extra healing in 2 seconds. The ability to freely spam out your rotation as quickly as your fingers will let you is a big draw. One that blood doesnt really have.
Community perception is 99% of the battle now. Still being a blood DK gets you a lot more groups than being an enhance shaman. So dont sweat it too much.
