Is Archeology Officially Dead?

It’s been slowly dying for a while and then Shadowlands really stepped on its throat.

Do you think it’ll go the way of First Aid?

I hope not. I rather enjoyed it. Plus it was a great alternative for leveling alts.

As in removed? No. never updated again? Yes.

I like Archaeology, personally. Was my favorite thing to do for leveling alts back in Legion.

I should probably go back and finish up my achievements in Pandaria though…on my priest I’m only a few more solves of most artifacts away from getting them.

It’ll probably just not receive further updates.

Maybe not dead but, like the Norwegian Blue, its certainly resting.

Archaeology needs a serious overhaul. I wouldnt go as far as ESO did (because its even more tedious in that game) but a revamp of how its done and what it rewards wouldnt go astray.

LOL snort someone got the reference, anyhow. Good take.

Was it even alive?

It certainly was when they first introduced the Vial of the Sands. And there is that rare sword people keep wanting, forget what its called.

Honestly archaeology could be a fun way to introduce some historical lore and flavor with a zone’s history and culture (as well as toys and transmogs). It’s why I was into it back in Cata but then nothing much happened after that other than getting like ~6 items per expansion.

In Legion, archeology was lit.

It’s like the team went extra for archeology in that expansion and it was incredible.

Zin’rokh. Never got that darn sword and it was so cool.

Except they said its being removed in 10.0

Not true. In an interview on JudgeHype they said:

" No redesign of archaeology planned for the moment. This is something that devs want to do, but they focus on the essential elements of Dragonflight, mainly at the level of the collection/manufacturing trades. We could have novelties for archaeology in the long term, but not right away."

So the fact they “want to do” re a redesign indicates it is still alive, just in abeyance.

Source? That’s the opposite of what I saw.

Speaking specifically of what Ion said in the interview with Hazel. It’s not going away, but it’s not getting any changes. Yet. They want to redo it, but it’s not at the top of the to do list.

Yes surely in some future patch or next expa.

Man I was hoping for dragon and titan archaeology.

Definitely not gonna be updated at launch.

The most recent interview makes it sound like it could see some love after 10.0, but given Blizzard’s track record for delivering features mid-expansion, that probably means that it won’t be updated until at least 11.0.

Given the travesty that was BfA archelogy…which was so pathetic it literally felt like they had an intern do it overnight on the day before launch, I rather they just not do it if they aren’t going to at least do it right.

Their excuse to not do it in SL was absurd and I’m at least glad they are admitting it isn’t a priority rather than try and claim that, like SL, there just wouldn’t be any archeology stuff when you literally have realms that existed since time began and we literally went to the land where creation itself happened with timeless robots and everything…yet we’re to believe nothing of archeological interest was to be found there?
