Is anyone else pretty happy with PvP right now?

What? You mean a heroic geared leggo wilding 110 literally 1 hitting another lower geared 110 isn’t balanced?

That being said I was a prick with those crit shoulders lol

No. Still too gear focused and widely unbalanced. Talents are too boring and static (I miss the old talent tree).

No.

I do wonder if the overtuned classes/specs find it more fun than others.

Not sure what to compare it to, but Legion (prior to prepatch) was a little more fun than today. Vanilla, TBC, WotLK: all waaaay more fun, no contest.

A current issue I’m experiencing is the drudgery of the azerite grind for alts and even for mains/potential new mains.

Aussies carry both factions during off hours.

Being that gear has mattered the least now, would you then say that you’ve never enjoyed PvP?

I strongly disagree re: talents as well. There were just more points to invest giving the illusion of choice. In practice, everyone googled their fixed talent lines for either raiding or PvP and allocated their leftover two points into 1% increased frostbolt damage or something equally mundane. The current talent trees do have compelling, difficult choices in many cases- which is why you see people changing their talents on the fly to suit the arena teams they’re facing and so forth.

PvP has been great this expansion. All the things you mentioned along with better survivability have made it a blast. My only bicker is that my alts feel a lot weaker than they should because I refuse to grind islands.

The current trees are not bad, but can be improved. For one, trinket should just be baseline with another choice being put in to replace that. They should revisit the talents for some specs/classes where certain things should be baseline or spec wide.

What interests me is when asked, the community responds with a pretty wide range of specs that are overtuned in their opinions. More so than was in case in expansions past.

If I can figure out how to link other forum posts, I might edit this response to show you what I mean.

It more comes down to counters from what I’ve seen. A ret paladin is more likely to suggest that frost mages are over powered, and a frost mage more likely to accuse MM hunters of the same, etc.

This needs to happen above all else.

PVP is now too gear dependent. I know lots of folks didn’t like the templates, but I think they went too far the other way. Right now my main is fine. But on lower geared alts or toons I am leveling, the most intelligent thing to do in BG’s is just AFK since there is no way I am killing anyone.

As I main a tank, no, and so long as the flat 20%-30% increase dmg taken exists in a PvP that’s focused on gear instead of the template in which it was implemented remains, I won’t enjoy PvP at cap.

The bgs are still my favorite. If they try to force feed me the same map all day it gets old, but overall I have fun win or lose. I have never had the top gear since the game began and don’t expect this to change so the gear isn’t really an issue. I think I had to wait too long to get daggers but I eventually got some so thats cool too. I kind of miss seeing all the rogues in the bgs and hope they buff sub soon. Still the best game out there for me.

Yep, there has to be tangible, impactful downsides for choosing to roll on or transfer to the dominant faction, else it’ll only continue to become more dominant.

I pretty much only PVP, and I’m having a good enough time to keep subscribing. I’ve seen PVP be in worse shape over the years.

My biggest gripe with PVP is the conquest system. I don’t enjoy doing epic BGs, which are too PVE oriented for my tastes, but I feel compelled to do them under the current system. I like random battlegrounds the best and would prefer to just grind out the full 500 weekly points there at my leisure rather than being limited to only 8 points after the first win each day.

Huge finger-quotes there. My old high school buddy who used to play more frequently than I ever have (and I used to play a lot) absolutely thrived on trying out different spec + gear + talent combos in PvP and PvE. Dude was constantly hitting up the trainer to respec and try something different. He no longer plays since the talent change.

Similarly I have buddies who seem to be having more fun theorycrafting talent builds in preparation for Classic than they do playing BfA.

A lot of people ran cookie cutters but plenty of others didn’t.

You’re right, it’s less of an issue now…but still an issue. I yearn to love PvP. I like the challenge, teamwork and (usually) non-stop action. But, I don’t love it. I ran up against a druid tank with 526K health. That’s what gear dependence does–significantly tilts the playing field. I think I mentioned this in another thread, but a “fresh” 120 against a gear 120 is like a 10lvl character going against a 110lvl.

Maybe, just make the levels harder to achieve.

Now that sub is buffed I love it again. Before the buffs I was on the constant edge of tears every BG

All in all I’m okay with it. I do think melee is a bit mongo, I don’t like how War Mode messed up one of the best WPVP servers, and there’s a few two-button classes that need a rethink, but despite that I’m still having fun.

I’m enjoying Wintergrasp among other things.

I personally would have rather they did actual server merges or some other thing that is totally within their power to resolve dead servers or the 100:1 faction servers. Server community is important, and shouldn’t be swept under the rug instead of strengthening it. I could care less about Rets from Azralon, I wanna run into rivals within my community.

What did they do to sub?

Epic BGs are pretty great right now. World PvP is often fun. Rewards are a disaster, of course, but that’s mostly true in every aspect of the game right now. Arenas are pretty imbalanced.

All in all, casual PvP is in a pretty good place right meow. That’s something at least.
