Yes. Ohshiftson is one of the many posters on the Classic forums that are pushing hard for min/max and are very vocal about hating meme specs.
Any talk of fun things has been killed. Bear tanking? Nah. Spelladin? Dead thread. The melee hunter thread survives only via trolls.
It could be worse though - we used to only talk about streamers ruining everything.
My advice is to just ignore them. There will always be groups/guilds that’ll progress regardless of gear/spec. There’s no reason to argue with them because their mind is made up.
No one is going to stop those people from playing those specs. It’s completely up to them.
The only question that Oshiftson brings to light is how much the rest of the community has to accept your “meme spec”. The answer is none. You can roll these specs but unless you take it 100% serious, no one would bother bringing a handicap to a raid because it’s enjoyable to them. Accountability is a thing too.
See I think Min/Maxing unpopular specs is awesome. I think that is more fun to push something different to the highest possible limit. So I look at Min/Maxing as a good thing to only expand the way you play the game. The weirder the build the better. Have at it! Proving people wrong is also fun.
This is the coolest part about the talent trees in the early days. So much room for customization! You can roll these fun/new specs and you will find people that have room for you to test it out too. Just don’t be discouraged when you do get the occasional “You’re a half geared feral druid? We’ll need you resto if you want to provide anything.” So unless you’re willing to sometimes get rejected, knock your socks off.
Min max and the insistance of such increases your chances to actually progress.
Not get stuck in a gimped raid full of starry eyed six year olds dreaming of dragin slayn.
I agree with the fact that it’s their group so it’s their choice. I hope the greater community doesn’t care, on the Classic Beta and all the PServers I’ve played meme specs have never made life worse. The content isn’t difficult enough to warrant everyone min/maxing.
I was already steamrolling instances on Classic Beta in silly groups like 4 Rets and a shadow priest healing in SM Cath. The difficulty doesn’t spike much more.
BiS is a goal, not necessarily a requirement. Knowing what your best piece is, is important to give you the best shot as a raider.
Most people suck when it comes to understanding how to compare two items, especially in Vanilla. That’s why the uber nerds write guides and everyone else listens in rapt awe.
the trinket wasnt that rare, the good guilds ran brd constantly early on until it dropped. i didnt see the weapon much though, but people were generally looking for swords or daggers anyway
He didnt say that. He just said you’ll be less effective. Thats fact. This game IS solved. There is a best way, and other still viable, but less effective ways.
My SO used to wear a melee cape on a priest because “it looks cool” compared to far better, but uglier capes. So there will always be “that person” even if they know better.
Yeah, but if I compare Wolfshead Helm and Bone Ring Helm, stat-wise the Wolfshead is worse, except that its proc makes it BiS. That’s a common situation for Vanilla, where manually crafted items can’t be easily stat compared.
So unless someone plugged in an addon with their believed BiS orders (not just best), tool tip comparison doesn’t work.
